Hey there you go! This is the reason I really love you anialways. Your advice is always valuable and is very much needed on this forum. As I said, I had problem with only one sentence. The rest of it is absolutely fine.

When you have no ECs, don’t complain. As anialways said, counterbalance it with something out of the box.

I am glad we agree. The love is reciprocated. Now that my D is away so far away, I am happy I can have and enjoy disagreements with all my virtual friends out there.

Depends…why/how does it engage you, define who you are, help to build your confidence and knowledge base. Even if it is hobby it has to serve a purpose that can be translated into something that helped you discover, grow, enhance you personally.

For example, I would say for me visiting this forum gives me immense satisfaction, keeps me occupied and discover the lost art of reading and writing that I had put aside since I graduated and was done with 4 yeras of office job of 9am-9pm. It pushes me to think, as I have to deal with very intelligent and curious bunch of people. It forces me to be patient and tactful, something which had been a sort of a challenge for me in real life. Because here I can give my responses time to ponder on, before I write. It has allowed me to discover that all the hard work, research and effort that I put in to educate myself, for over two years for my Ds college application, was a treasure worth sharing. In the process I learn something new everyday. And I can go on and on.

Sorry For reposting. I’m pretty much a Noob in CC. Donno how to link. :)

Okay guys, many of you might ask later on about the TATA Scholarship and Cornell. You are lucky to have firefliesdance helping you. Well I am sure she can answer other questions too :p.

@Indiestudent I don’t usually chance anyone. I just advise and guide to my best effort. To get into the top bunch of your choices, you’ve got to improve your SAT! A 720 in SAT Math for an engineering applicant from India is CRIMINAL!!

@firefliesdance I hope that you would give some time to CC even after going to Ithaca. Future applicants need advice from students like you, anunay, antares, quiverfox, rishav and many others who walked through all this HELL of a process and got into excellent schools.

Aw. Reading posts like that make me wonder why people hate on CC so much. I’ll definitely try to help simply because I got help from so many people here on CC. I think we’ve all got into great colleges. Beyond rankings, all the colleges I’ve seen on Indian Thread 21 were absolutely amazing. Best of luck Class of 2018 and over to you. I won’t take up your space anymore.

Nah, its fine as long as your app is otherwise great. else …(you know how this ends:p)
Oh and thanks a lot hopingforbetter :)Yes you are always ON :)

^ I don’t want to hear the ‘else’ part. It deeply hurts me. Btw, Is my app “Otherwise great”? I aimed for 800, but just screwed up for 3 questions. I couldn’t understand what went wrong. And it looks like I’m being cornered. I know it’s real, but, I feel insulted. :’(

Why ‘720 is criminal’ is because the applicant pool from India is one of the most competitive one.

But remember there are enough good colleges out there. You will find your fit. Just do not get stuck in the mindset of - I just have to get these top 5. The beauty of applying outside of India is the choices are mindboggling. Just approach the whole process with an open mind.

And my suggestion, instead asking people’s opinion here on CC, just match your stats with Freshman Stats profile for each of the colleges you have listed above.

My dream school is Cal Poly, SLO. My Applicant profile is better than theirs. Do I stand a chance there? (Their 75th percentile math score is around 680 and they do not consider writing scores) And yeah, @hopingforbetter, that advice made me feel better. And yeah, btw do the admissions office check your background, like where you come from (specifically, you know, where from in India?) I’m trying my best to reduce the discrepancies in my app. Things are real difficult here, I live in a town (more or less) close to a city (not a metro). Even the nearest SAT test center is 500 kms away. It makes me think twice before taking the SAT. No SAT coaching centers. AP, not a chance, the nearest one about 800 kms away. All the scores I managed to get are by my self effort. I know these points are technically useless to all of you here, maybe even the adcom. But, I just wanted to let everyone know, more or less. I just have the strong desire and urge to succeed and securing a degree from the US, has been my very dream since about 5th grade. Most of the people here, choose Biology (in 11th and 12th) as their Opt. Subject and look forward to pursue Medicine in local colleges. By not choosing Biology, I wanted to prove a point, which is why securing a degree from the US has been vital for me along with the choice of my preferred major.

Sorry, for letting my thoughts out and thanks for reading. :)
