HYMPS have large endowment (~30 Billions) growing at the rate of 15%. Financial aid would be a small part of their endowment dollars.

SM

btw ..large endowments dont affect the fact that a college is needblind to intels or not coz most of it doesnt go for finaid and rather is spent on the research and all..

and also they are all neeedblind to us citizens anyways in most universitites so well intels dnt really matter that much

its just that many universities still find it inappropriate to give needblind finaid to intels..

Out of curiosity, are there a lot of international students at Brown? Are most of the Indians there ABCD's?
[/quote]

There are about 150 internationals in each batch, out of 1500 students.. They try to have atleast 10% international students...

Most of the indians are ABCD's (maybe about 25 or so in my class), but not as many indians acually from india.. In my year, there are only three others besdies me.. Traditionally, the number varies between 3-5..

Getting into MIT is pretty easy nowadays: Just hire a agency to do PR with Matt and Ben and you would be through;)

It's not that some colleges prefer to be need blind towards int'l and others do not. Most of the colleges are need blind towards citizens coz they are funded by federal aid(restricted to citizens/PRs). Only schools with large endowments are able to offer full ride to all int'l.

can someone explain what exactly need blind means?
and in which colleges will applying for aid adversely affect your chances? in the need blind colleges or otheres?

Hey watercannon,

What do you do over the weekend? Do you stay on campus or go to Boston or Providence downtown?

How do you like Brown so far in terms of social life as well as academics?

Thanks

There's generally quite a bit going on on campus over the weekends, so I don't always travel. There's generally a frat party friday and/or saturday night, and they vary from being really good to pretty bad. There's also a club on college hill (viva) where a lot of students tend to go on weekends.

Downtown providence is pretty nice. Students go to the mall to catch a movie over the weekends, or just to eat and chill. The clubs downtown are amazing, but they are a lot stricter with ID, so it's difficult to get in unless you have a good fake.

I go to Boston (45 mins away) or New York (3 hours away) about once a month, or less. Most Brown students don't end up going more often then that, because there's a lot happening on campus.

The social life is really good (Brown was ranked number one for quality of student life), and the academics are excellent as well. I love Brown so far - its been an amazing experience.

badman89,
Need-Blind is a term used by colleges to indicate that they will not consider your financial situation as a factor for your admission. Most of the colleges in the U.S are need-blind towards US citizens and permanent residents, simply because of the fact the the aid is from the federal government and that it is restricted to citizens/pr's. There are a few colleges that are need-blind towards intl's.

Applying for aid in colleges not need-blind, does affect your chances. How much? I really don't know.

thanks laksya...... Any place i can find a list of colleges need blind for internationals?
and will they truly be need blind? or is that just for namesake

I guess a list was posted sometime back on this thread itself. Yes, they are TRULY need-blind but ALL of those colleges are VERY hard to get in even otherwise, so it doesn't make much of a difference.

there is a pinned thread at the top of the financial aid forum that has this info.

Well guys could it happens that while registering for the SAT the test center doesn't accepts your registration coz they don't have any place for you(all seats filled up).

is it that easy.... tell me the name of a company if you know one.

Where are you giving your SAT from?

Yes, indeed it can happen that you may not get seats, in that case you will have to look at test-centers in other locales, if you find none, you'll have to contact CB and they might do something.
