karan89:that question might sound stupid to u, but it is very easy to find out a person within army itself.......(n I m not sayin that in AIR...)....and that question really means to me!!!
Neway...I will take Maths2,chem,phy in SAT2....I dont see any point in takin BOTH maths1 AND maths2.....(they dont hav much difference.....isnt it?)..

maths 1 and maths 2 are very different sets of exams however its stilll advisable to show a variety of subjects in ur sat2's

SM

maths 1 = easy
maths 2 = hard

if u are good enough for maths 2, dont take maths 1.

u must all b aware of the fact that in order to get into a top univ. u need 'a hook', something unique and special...

what's your hook?

hey guys am in class 11 now. When and how do i go about participating in various olympiads?

Ajay

Getting into a uni does not mean that u need to take part or win olympiads....although it does help but it should not be taken as a means to get into the uni........hope u got my point.....I m not discouragin u take part....It is very good if u are INTERESTED in it....but bad if u use it just for the means of getting into the uni.....;).....hope u win gold in olympiads!!!!...:)..

@Ajayc: Participate in the regional olympiads and then work your way up the ladder to finally participate in the international ones. Don't think that olympiads will definitely get you admission. Every other part of your application needs to be just as good. SATs, GPA, Essays, Recs ..Best of Luck.

everyone submitted their applications?

Nope ... I don't want to submit them. I still feel my essays need work. lol

@ k_twin -- aren't most deadlines 1st Jan ?
that's a looooooong way off.

(actually just joking, am working on my essays, plan to send my app next week and submit my common app later, so that I get more time for my essays)

so......who applied to Stanford this yr??

I did, I know k_twin did, I think abhishiv did too!

Well I applied early, got rejected :), I've been sending apps for the past day, will have most sent online by the end of today, I'll probably mail forms tomorrow...

k_twin:well as u hav good academic record...the most probable cause(s) of ur straight Rejection(It should hav been 'deferred') are ur essays and the EC record!!!
I know ur workin hard on ur essays...then, the only thing left is ur EC record.......here is wat I hav to say....
1.Mention ONLY 1(atleast) or 2(atmost) activity which tells about ur PASSION bout the thing u want to major in(Comp. engineering isnt it?)...
2.Mention all DIFFERENT things in the remainin spaces,i.e.,dont mention another similar acadmic activity....or dont mention 2 different sports(do it in one row....if possible)..This will show r WELL-ROUNDEDness(excluding ur academic activities!!!)...
This is how I prefer to fill the apps.....

i think it's more to do with the fact that stanford isn't need-blind

ya..may be..but then...he should hav got 'deferred'.....

not necessarily

Ok, I'll go on a leap here and say this: ktwin's EC's are as good as anyone's can get in the UAE. The rest of the stuff was spectacular anyway. I know another guy(from UAE) who got deffered. His stats were WAY less than ktwin's. He got deffered because he didn't need aid and stanford thought lets give him a shot in the RD round. For internationals stanford doesn't have a lot of aid available and if you need substantial amount of aid and they can't provide it they 'reject' you. Its sad, but stanford does that.

just curious, what happened to k_twin's twin?

And yeah, since EC's are being discussed. The other person who didn't need aid and applied EA to stanford had absolutely NO ECs to speak of. Whatever little he had weren't awards or something so they don't cause so much of an effect.
