The Indian Thread (TiT) # 15

**oh i am so so so so so Sorry.. i cudnt reply earlier..

Its a pleasure to see all of these wishes here at The India Thread ...my birthday was one hell of a day in themost subtle way possible..

now i have finally decided i will be blogging too. and thus goes my blog for yet again another time..

http://foreverahead.blogspot.com

well.. and the failure stuff in google is what is called a google bomb..and google knows that as well.. but they have publicly announced no plans to change that also .. coz of ethical reasons and causes of search integrity..

SM **

ronty .. its been long since we have talkd..man these weird college schedules and all.. gosh makes everythng so haywire.. talk to you soon man.

SM

Well the no. tells them your regional standing, as a matter of fact in most of the Univs you compete with applicants from India... not globally(in fact). GO AHEAD WITH YOUR ACT exam, there is a considerable group in aMERICA THAT FAVours Act to SAT!!!

I a few SAT report sheets(perhaps the only ones I've seen so far) at Wisdom Mart, Noida... they all had a National Percentile.
btw abhishiv, do you have that shopkeepers Name and/or Phone no.

well as of the ongoing discussion over needblind schools to international students the list is NOT very big..
here goes

Harvard
Yale
MIT
Princeton
Middlebury
Williams

NOt to mention the sheer number of admission in these schools for international students ensure that the best of the lot get selected anyways who wud have equally been selected with financial aid... the only tipping factor is that u get the mental assurance of being treated equally..
As of others who take financial position into account, the admissions are equally difficult with financial aid and well one must be prepared to face things otherwise in this admission game..

SM

Amherst is planning to announce needblind status for the internationals too but as of now its not and thus its hghly unlikely that it will do that now..

SM

the competitin is in most cases highly local than we may think of .. instead of competiting with thousands of international students we only compete with the students of our own country ..

this is in the light of the fact that university strive to understand academic and overall achievement in ones own context and relative to ones situation..

so quite rightly a student from afghanistan is not expected to show as much stuff as one from india and yet be equally deserving for that seat at harvard..

though quite partially true but this game of diversitification has backfired and well thats why its more called as the diversity advantage for others and local disadvantage for indians (likewise koreans and some more). .. since the applicant pool is highly self selective in itself so we end up competiting highly with ourself and our mates from india..

when u have to choose only 5 outta a 100 applying frmo india.. you obviously wont look at numbers from outside and rather wud be well easily comparing indians among themselves..

SM

Pranjal: i don't have his name or phone. Consult the Yellow Pages for Book Sellers in Daryaganj(Nai Sadak).

Dude, same here... Looking forward to talk to u soon. And yes, keep blogging ;)

Harvard
Yale
MIT
Princeton
Middlebury
Williams

Thanks. I know this list by heart. I am trying not look at them. The competition is too much plus am not prepared to give SAT Subject tests.

I am looking at some good liberal Arts colleges and I have made a list:

Carleton
Bowoin
Davidson
Claremont McKenna College
Grinnell
Colgate
Hamilton College
Washington and Lee

OR any other which i may have missed out

These colleges do not require SAT subjest tests. can anyone here find more info on these colleges and help me select the best four

I have applied to MIT Undergrad. and will be interviewed by Ravi Meattle .Tell me what exactly he expects. What does he exactly expects . Actually i don't have really strong academic achievements to share but i know i have it me to be at MIT and all what si required to excel there. Please advice

utkarshsharma well firstly never be so confident of yourself if you're talking abt MIT.. you will realise this after you have a loook at the other candidates who apply from india with some really stellar applications. And among them are aplications that have no obvious weakness even in academics. and for just informations sake, even they are at times rejected..

the normal average intake at MIT is around 4 indians a year and is expected to stay the same..

Its not abt the difficulty of MIT that scares ppl off but the fact that there are so few seats for so many overqualified candidates..

The alumni interview is going to be pretty informal but yet quite informtive.. have your own questions about MIT and be sure you show interest in MIT to a considerable extent..

THERE ARE NO SET QUESTIONS GENERALLY ASKED FRM STUDENTS in interviews.. and each interview may be drasticaly different from the one before.. so well just be prepared for random general talk ..

its nothing formal but rather an informal way of knowing you and eliminating obvious rejections in MIT's case..so be prepared to talk about your own application and well your research experiance and extra curriculars..

the interviewer doesnt expect anything nor does the interview hold paramount importance in the admission process.. rather it is among all a very meager piece of supporting document for your application which may help in close call cases and in obvious no admission cases..

the interviewer is supposed to just send in an appraisal sheet on the meet and well guage the admission officers about you and your overall nature, character and anything else he notices...

And dont try to pretend, as for one thing that you must know ,they are smart enough to catch you when you lie.

thats about it.. simply do some researching on MIT and its latest advancements and well some on yourself.. thats all..

utkarsh plz update the LP,(references on previous pages)

the problem with US news America's Best liberal Art Colleges is that they will keep changing and many other organisations will have colleges differently rated so i cannot completely trust it.

Why are you applying to only four, I would recommend applying to every college on the list if the $9 fee doesn't presents' any problem.
And US news ranking are the most credible rankings.
