The Indian Thread (TiT) # 15

Stanford is not need-blind to intl's, therefore it will not award fin aid easily and if it does, its rarely substantial.

This year the financial aid policy at Stanford has undergone a major change. Stanford has eliminated tuition for Low Income Families and EFC of Middle income families has been cut to half. Though this doesn't applies to intl', Stanford would be a lot lenient this year in awarding aid to intl'.

heeh well keep on guys.. dont loose the momentum.. coz the more u discuss the more u urself will gain in ur applications and increase ur chances

SM

It's certainly dead here.
I would be maintaining a low online profile for the next few weeks coz my A levels are just a month away.
Anyways, has anyone scheduled their interviews?

Salman: Initally i had left your question for the seniors to answer but as it seems everyone is busy with their hectic schedules i will try to answer.

Essays and ECs are the most important parts of your application. Essays are used by Adcoms to know about you. They would like to know about the world around you and how it has shaped your way of thinking. Well written essays could do wonders. Use your essays wisely, Before the admission committee they are your only voice. Take at least 1-2 months to frame and polish them.

Regarding Essays: Often the simplest of things have the deepest impact. The essay should not be a philosophical theory about different religions or an analysis of an economic problem. The adcomms dont want that, what they want from an essay is you, basically write which shows them a strong side of you.

the essays have to be natural and less artificial though ur way of puttig ur words in it will be a major factor.. words are powerful objects and if u use them carefully u can be a winner...

in admissions essays serve as ur voice for the application.. thru the topic of ur choice there u choose to moderate ur whole application..

it serves as both a binder to ur ap and also an insight into the personal you.. in tht way its quite important of ur doc.. it shud also be ritten with much attention and care... yet at the minimum level of complexitiy ..

Long essys or off topic esssays dont work.. and adcomms pretty well knw what is gud and what is nt..

dont worry if u r nt shakespeare .. none of us are. .. but a well thought .. nicely planned essay represents in the writing of even an ammateur andd they can identify that..

ofcours ur essay play a very vital role in also telling about some things u may nt get a chance to in th aplication but in a very subtle way .. like an allusion or somethin hidden..

the readers are quite intelligent and smart to understand all u mean dont wory

But well amazing essays which dont reflect u dont have any value.. while ones which are simple yet self written may be like an important addon

neverthless, dont think an empty amazing essay self written is gonnna get the admission. essays are voices of ur application.. but if the application doesnt hold weight thn the voice is nonexistant..

so without a solid application dont expect the essays to do anything..

I hope this answers the abstract part of ur essy thinking process.. as per the facts and data and usage of words in an essay i dont think i need to say it still..

SM

SM: Any idea what is the transfer class size for the school of scoial sciences at IUB.

There, we go.. I'm back from my trip to India (quite happy about the results of the trip itself :) ), I've got a brilliantly upgraded comp, and I'm all set to actually get down to some more work on apps. Thanks for earlier posts re: essays & ECs
