The Indoctrination Processing

This question is directed to all current mids and parents of mids.

After reading through some of the blogs I just wanted to get a feel for how things work once I am inside the gate.

I understand that we are given some medical examinations, we are required to fill out paperwork, and we have to stow gear. Are we given our PRT on I-Day? I'm fit but I really want to make sure I pass.

Also, as far as the schedule for qualifying our courses for next year, I was told that we would be doing it during the first week. I'm assuming this is during the day on that Thursday or Friday. Any info on how our busy weeks will be structured is great. It doesn't really matter, but I think it'll give me some peace of mind. Thanks everyone. GO NAVY '13!!

You will process through Alumni Hall - given small medical, lots of blood drawn, eyes tested I think only for color blindness, alcohol and drug tested and given any shots that may have been missed or they think are missing. (Mine had shot papers with him and still got a few even though they were clearly on the shot record - no clue as to why and by that time my Mid was not asking questions!)

You will not be given a prt on IDAY. You will practice for it over Plebe Summer and be given one at the end.

You will be fitted for clothing, shoes and cover size. You will get a ton of clothes that will go in a big duffle bag that you will have marked with your name, Company Platoon and mid ID Number. That will be transported over to the mid store parking. You will get a haircut (again, even if you show up with it in regulations) You will get your reef points, canteen etc.

After you are through processing in you will be transported to the Mid store parking lot. Your duffle bag will show up on a truck just before you arrive via bus. Many parents will be on the stairs next to Chauvenet Hall trying to get a glimpse of the new Plebe - keep you eyes in the boat and don’t try to find the rents!

You will go up to you assigned Plebe summer room and put all of your stuff away. After that is complete - I have no Idea other than at 6pm you will all file out to T Court and take the Oath of Office. After that you will get about 30 to 40 minutes to find the family on Stribling walk (there will sign post with the alphabet, you meet up with your parents at the letter for the start of your last name) If your parents are not coming, check with your parents club to see if they will have a person with snacks and drinks for their unaccompanied Plebes - our parent club does provide that service. Also the Chaplain Corps provides the same service. Approx 7pm you will line up by Company, Platoon, Squad to march back into Bancroft. First Reg (Platoons 1-15) will line up on the left (Port) side (as you look at Bancroft) and 2nd reg (Platoons 16-30) on the right (starboard) side.

Mid has stated that the Brigade will not be expanded to 36 Companies (Platoons over Plebe summer) for the 2009-2010 class year.

who will be greeting you this year (as he was last year)in front of Alumni Hall.

He is a wonderful example of what proper physical conditioning can do for a person’s physique. I have rarely seen such large biceps in my life. I don’t think you would like to make him think you are not paying attention.

(and for the parents, he is really nice, we have gotten to know him in the last year by chance.)

Mom2Mid … Your adopted lingo really made me laugh. And along with your very detailed description, would seem to be on the $.

Still, I think your sailor’s screen name must be Mid2Mom …for he/she certainly offered up more nitty-gritty details about the day’s procedures than Mids I know.

Good luck Class of '13. You know, it had long been rumored they were gonna skip enlisting that group …you know, like they do on elevators and USNA companies.

The Mid is home and helped fill in the blanks but if you notice there was one blank that was not included - what goes on in Bancroft apparently stays in Bancroft (May because there are times that I tell my Mid that it’s “too much information that mom just does not need to know!”)

After you go through the workings of Alumni Hall. Inside Bancroft you go stand under a letter that correlates to what company you are in. Then you are given a pee test, CMOD training, and a few other things. It’s a checklist that you go through. You also turn in all watches, clocks, and phones. After you complete the list you go down to King hall for dinner then return to your room to unpack or look out the window and watch others get yelled at. The napsters go through this process the day before so they are there to help. I thought IDay was the most relaxed day and my favorite day of plebe summer. I would rather do 2 plebe summers than an academic year. Plebe summer is so funny, just remember to laugh.

True, but you will be given a initial strength test within the first few days of arriving. This will be one of the first impressions that you show to your cadre.

“First impressions are lasting impressions.”

Don’t show up to I-Day in semi-decent shape, show up in outstanding shape.

Also, after the Swearing-in ceremony and meeting of the parents you will most likely go to company area, and the detailers will introduce theirselves and start indoc night. Which is basically the same thing they did over the mock indoc of summer seminar if you went. Personally, I thought Iday was only miserable becuase of all of the shots and waiting around doing nothing.

ahh, no.

Lucky 13.
Company alive and well at USNA.

Never! Never!! Never!! Call a Marine Corps Major “Gunney” in the Company Area. You will Pay and Pay and Pay. First Class year they will still be talking about the Plebe that called the Major “Gunney”
