Any thoughts? I'm particularly interested to know if you get 'better' housing if you return your deposit earlier. In other words, will waiting until April or May hurt your chances for 'good' housing, or is it all randomly assigned after May 1st? And what dorms are considered to be most desireable (for a non-Honors freshman)? thanks.

Juniper- D is a freshman at NEU. Most of the housing for freshman is average at best. But the date you make the deposit DOES MATTER. Best tip I can give you is to look carefully at the LLCs for housing. The plan now is to put all the LLCs in the brand new high-rise being built. It will have its own cafeteria, health club and some class rooms I hear. Still under construction, but new can't be all bad. Only downside is it is a few blocks off the main part of campus, and some are not crazy about the neighborhood. But worth considering.

Parcel 18 (the new building) is indeed in "Roxbury", since it goes onto Tremont street. However, it is literally just on the other side of Ruggles Station, and once the building is finished I don't think there is going to be any problem getting between the rest of campus and Parcel 18.

On the other hand, Kennedy, Milton, Light, and some of the other freshman buildings are pretty far from the center of campus and border pretty close to the fens. Now, I've never had a problem with that area, but some people are uncomfortable with it. Be warned - this year, honors housing was Kennedy (farthest dorm from campus) and West Village F (middle of campus, apartment style, very nice). It all depended on when you submitted your deposit.

Btw, WVF is no longer going to house honors freshman.

we went thru this last winter when my daughter sent in her housing deposit. She sent it early , but she lives in Speare..don't know if it was because she requested a particular roommate or not. Kind of institutional looking place, but she doesn't mind at all when i comes right down to it.
She has a friend who sent in her deposit much later and is a triple, but I guess she is okay with that too

Speare is actually a very nice place to live. A few years ago, they remodelled they entire building. When students are family members of neu faculty and therefore get free ride, they are placed in Speare. Plus, in my opinion, it is placed in a convenient place on campus-- right next to the dining halls, right next to marino, right on huntington, right next to the T stop...

NEU parent just wanted to add that there is a difference in pricing between say Stetson and Parcel 18. If money is an issue, look at the pricing before selecting your choices.

Any one have any info on honors housing? I know theres two specific buildings for honors students but if you get into the honors program are you garunteed honors housing?

Son sent his deposit in right after he got his EA acceptance last year. He is a freshman now in Stetson West. He is on the Health Services LLC floor. My advice is if you are thinking seriously about Northeastern, send in your housing as soon as you can.

You are not guaranteed honors housing. THIS year (as in, the students who were accepted last year), there were two honors buildings-- Kennedy (although it has some non-honors as well) and West Village F. However, not all honors students got into those housing buildings, depending on when you submit your housing deposit.

Next year, WVF is becoming upperclass honors housing. Many of the LLCs are moving to Parcel 18, so I figure that there will be a freshman honors LLC there, but I do not know. No one is very certain on where the honors housing is going to be next year.

Speare isn't bad...just not great. We never did see the honors freshmand housing, but we did get the useless tour of he upperclassment , over 21 housing. Beautiful , but it'll never happen for mine.
My daughter's room is a little tight...her desk is partly in her roommate's side of closet
Definately great location neuchimie !

sorry, what is "LLC"?

Living Learning community. There is a description on the housing website pages.
lje62 why do you say it will never happen for yours?
My son is a middler. First year he was in honors WVF. Second year wasn't great...this year he is back in West Village-apartment style, very nice housing. Most middlers who are on campus get a good enough number for apartment style housing if they want to pay the price. It isn't cheap.

ebeeeee, I just don't think there is any chance she would want to. By the time she turns 21 , she will most likely want to live off campus. She has a late June birthday.. She actually wants to live off campus next year , but I think it is too soon. Plus , I know that dorm is pretty expensive , in comparison to other options.
