I've been addicted to the internet for a number of years now and can spend up to half a day online, doing absolutely nothing. As a result, I've lost the ability to think on my feet, have the attention span / concentration of a fish, and can't do good critical thinking anymore. It's kind of making me depressed. I feel like my brain starting rewiring itself for the lack of ability to resist instant gratification and lack of concentration since I was young, so now I have no self control and am being stupider and stupider.
Is this happening/has this happened to anyone?
If so, do you have any insight or advice? (I didn't make this so it would be an advice thread, but if you do happen to have any, feel free to share.)

Try this. Get off the internet. Make some friends, and take a trip to the park for some fresh air to socialize. Meet new people at the park, and further socialize. This will help you make new friends so you can go out more often, and not be attached to some virtual world.

I feel like this exact same thing has happened to me. I’m trying to stop it by reading more intellectually stimulating books.

Maybe after I browse a few more forums…

same… :(

^^^

What if OP doesn’t have a park? :'(

^ Then all hope is lost.

Yeah, I’m in G10 and I’ve kinda got the life sucked out of me by the internet. However, I’ve created a few methods to overcoming this and I’ve tried it personally.
1- Hardest step, limit your time on the internet, do some reading instead.
2- Go out with friends a lot and stop using Facebook. That brings me to another point.
3- Facebook does not make you social, it is the opposite, try not to depend on this.
4- Exercise. Trust me, exercise gets your mind off of a lot of things.
5- Laugh a lot even if you don’t find something particularly humorous, laughing makes everything look sweeter.

First post on CC, and I’m going to be here for the next three years hopefully. (I’m in G10)

^lol, nice username.
yah I just recently got rid of my facebook. It’s kind of been getting creepier and creepier for me, and I see no added benefit from it. I don’t even notice that I don’t have it haha.
Those are some pretty good methods! I should try the exercising one… it seems like it would work :)

He has to have a park. And even if he doesn’t go out with friends to a restaurant or somewhere fun.

It’s a shame you don’t have anything to occupy your time in the real world like, you know, friends, hobbies, maybe even school work.

Raise a million dollars. Build a park. Go to the park.
