The ISBN Trick

I've made a script that gets the ISBNs for you:

You need to use firefox, and have the greasemonkey[/url</a>] add-on installed.

Then, click here[/url</a>] to install the script.

You will see ISBN numbers extracted on UCLA bookstore pages. For instance, in the "find my textbooks" list.

That's awesome, thanks.

good script

Great script, thanks!

where does it show the ISBN numbers? im really low tech when it comes to computers...

It immediately pops up at the top.

Thanks OP!

It doesn't pop-up at the top anymore,

It's more non-intrusive, now it appears with each book entry.

If it's not working for you:
1. ONLY use firefox
2. Make sure javascript is enabled (Tools->options->content)
3. Greasemonkey needs to be installed and enabled
4. Install script

even more awesome than the first version! :D

oh I see, I didn't install the script, I thought greasemonkey was the script lol

That is awesome! I don't go to UCLA. Is this script school-specific? My books are through the online e-Follet bookstore with George Washington University. I think it's pretty terrible that they're all trying to hide the ISBN now. When I look up textbooks for my classes they actually hide the full name of the book now AND they won't give the author's name.

I think that's pretty f-ed up.

^^The university wants your munnies, them greedy bastids!

^^The university wants your munnies, them greedy bastids!

Oh yeah, you don't need to install the script. You can to it the old fashioned way on FF. When the source page comes up, Ctrl F and put this sku-used- into the search box. The 13 digit number along the line is the ISBN for the unbundled/non-packaged textbook. Hit "next" if there are multiple books listed.

ASUCLA is the Devil. Do not mask behind the clothed Bruin and its logos! Signs of Good and Evil... Blue and Gold... Greed, Suspicion, and the Overall Good of Students' Pockets. Curses. [/Underground [Wo]Man/Anti-Hero]

This script is school specific. I doubt it would work at other schools' stores unless the ISBN and Author information is available through the source code (which would make it easy to extract).

the ISBN is not hidden in the source for eFollet websites. There is no sure-way to get it.

I've made a script anyway, that will lookup the title in isbndb.com and will return any relevant ISBNs

the script is here[/url</a>]</p>

Note: you need to use firefox, and have greasemonkey add-on installed

Also, this is NOT for the UCLA store. It works if your college uses eFollet. Link the script other colleges' forums that use eFollet.

ucla_cse - I love you.

This script works perfectly and I will post the link to the GWU forum. You rock! Those money-grubbin' bstrds.

Thank you!

umm I got it working and it says link after the ISBN number I got, then I pressed on the link and it says ISBN not found... someone help? I'm looking for the chem20a book and math31a book...

i have scerri for chem 20a

He sent us an email saying that either the 5th or 6th editions of Oxtoby Principles of Chemistry would suffice.

5e: 9780030353734
6e: 9780534493660

The ISBN sold in UCLA bookstore is a custom package which includes not only the textbook, but other extras such as a solution manual, etc. So, unfortunately, those ISBNs won't work

No more scouring the source code... thank you ucla_cse!!! :)

Is there any reason why when I type in my UID + last name, I can't get the book list I need for my classes? I get this message:

"The textbooks for this section could not be found at this time. Please check back at the bookstore later for more information."

It's already September 9th and the books cannot be found? I'm wondering if it's too early to buy books (hence why the books aren't listed yet) and if anyone else has come across this?

Btw, I'm referring to the UCLA Bookstore's site.
