the Ivy Aid

i know that the majority of the ivies are "need-blind" but i guess it would be naive to assume that applying for financial aid wouldnt hurt your chances by even a miniscule margin (that ofcourse isnt neglibile), because between a payer and aid requester of equal calliber its obvious who they would choose

so which ivies do you guys think would asking for financial aid hurt one's chances of acceptance the least? or at which ivies would asking for it damage your chaces the most?

They don't look at it. The only way they'd consider it is if in your essay you wrote about how poor your family is...

The Ivies are need blind. They do not consider your financial need when you apply. Agreed with JimmyC....the only way they schools will know about your family finances is if you tell them in some other way.

... and I don't think it would hurt your chances, even if you tell them. Ivies are looking to build a diverse class, which includes folks who need the money they work so hard to make available.

regarding post #1:
Colleges that are "need-blind" are very strict about not choosing one
applicant over another based on economic circumstances.

However if they did do so it would be in favor of the one needing
a lot of aid. This is because economic diversity at colleges are measured
by pell grant eligible applicants.

Since this number is way less than 15% all of the top IVYs would
love to have a relatively poorer applicant who is Pell grant eligible.

When they do find out about relative need the IVYs and top schools
go out of their way to be extra nice and polite to meet the need.
Having been admitted to HPMS this year, I can tell you that I was
almost in tears to say no to the other 3 given how they treated me
so nicely from a fin aid perspective.
