Well, I wonder whether internationals would get email notification.

Dima--

Can you give us some idea of what a guy needs to wear for the finals competition - what do you guys wear to class, etc?

Thanks!!
Huguenot Mom

Err on the conservative side, polos and button down shirts as opposed to t-shirts. Also some more formal clothing for the interview portion on Wed (I'd recommend coat and tie). Remember that weather here in Lex fluctuates a lot, 60 degree days one week and 20 degree days the next so be prepared for that as well. The year I was an Honors Scholar there was a big snowstorm - other years its been quite warm.

PS: I feel like I keep hitting 2,000 posts and then falling again - where do they all go?

I am a finalist in Louisiana

I heard this from a reliable source....

"I scanned an email from W&L and within it are some stats for this year's applicants.

ED--a total of 539 apps received, 203 admitted

All apps received: 6348 (a 51% increase over the last record in 2005-06)

Johnson scholarship apps: 1858 of which 184 are finalists.

Good luck to all!"

DS said 161 accepted the invitation to the competition.

there were 161 there with us...they said 44 Johnsons but there might be other scholarships of less than full expenses after that...I am anxious to hear back

my s recvd letter stating there are going to be 70 or so Johnson scholarships offered as all may not accept scholarship--did others hear this as well?
thanks...exciting and hard to wait!

we all got an email about two weeks ago stating this

the finalists who don't get offered a johnson will recieve half to full tuition based on financial aid need

Will the acceptance letters coming out this week contain Johnson Scholarship status also? Thank you.

yes they will

my friend went for the interview, he is the coolest person youll ever meet. i hope he gets it (but may end up at HPY)

I don't know about American students (I'm Korean living in Mexico. WandL was unable to fly me up to the campus, was supposed to have a phone interview- which never happened bc the person in charge has/had pneumonia... hope she's better)
I got my acceptance letter with an offer for full ride- tuition, room, board, allowance for transportation and personal expenses, etc.
The letter said that it was an International Student Grant, reflecting my status as a finalist for the Johnson Scholarship....
I'm guessing the letters will be sent out throughout this week.
btw, I got my packet two, three days ago :)
Really excited about it lol
Good luck!

I didn't get a Johnson, but I got a full tuition Robert E. Lee Scholarship!!!

congrats! so you were a johnson scholar and received the robert e lee? is that how that scholarship works? thanks

Yes, but I don't know how R.E.L. worked

D got letter today. No Johnson Scholarship, but instead, a university grant covering full tuition. D is very excited -- um, so's her dad :)

congrats! that's great--my s also a johnson finalist-but he didn't receive Wash and Lee mail yet, heard if they didn't get johnson they did get full tuition which seems true for ebegoun and FLVADAD---do you know if that's true? thanks and happy for you guys!

my s recvd johnson scholarship! what a generous and wonderful opportunity! the best part is my s loved W & L while there for the competition so it is truly an incredible gift! congrats to others!

First of all, I want to congratulate all who were Johnson Scholarship finalists and were rewarded so generously for their hard work. I just wonder if this happened to anyone else: my d was designated as a finalist, but could not attend because of what we thought were two very important commitments, a significant role in a musical performed that week and last-minute preparation for mock trial states to be held the following week. She agonized over the decision, but figured she could not let her school and classmates down and only had about a 20% chance of earning a scholarship, so she declined to attend the competition, stating her reasons and regrets in writing, and she kept her local commitments. She had credentials good enough to earn her a place among the finalists (and her brother is even a current senior at W & L), but last Saturday she learned that she was not even admitted, but instead was on the waitlist. I guess we didn't realize the importance of not traveling to the competition, or the fact that everyone who attended would receive substantial financial help. Oh well!

^i am sorry to hear that. i almost didn't attend b/c I didn't want to get behind in school, but i decided it was worth it! btw, i have heard from some finalists that got absolutely no money, so it might not have been worth it to some
