I know only 10 students are admitted to the Kelly Scholars program each year but does anyone know what are typical GPA/test scores for those who get it. I know you need a minimum GPA 3.8 and ACT of 32 to be considered but I cant find stats of those who get scholarship.

thanks

Generally, it’s a pretty diverse group of kids who all have 4.0+ GPAs and sky high ACT/SAT scores (33+). They generally try to evenly split in-state/OOS, gender, and urm status. It’s not just about your academics, they also like students who formed their own businesses, were president/other executive of business clubs, played sports at a high level (all-state), were presidents of larger schools, and valedictorian/salutatorians.

This year, 7 of the 8 were in-state, 4 girls 4 boys. These are the profiles of the 2012-2013 class, but no stats are ever published: [Indiana University announces 2012-13 Kelley Scholars: IU News Room: Indiana University](<a href=“Indiana University announces 2012-13 Kelley Scholars: IU News Room: Indiana University”>Indiana University announces 2012-13 Kelley Scholars: IU News Room: Indiana University)

thanks for the info

Daughter is a DA Kelly Freshman at IU this year. When we met with a Kelly rep this past spring we were told that only one Kelly Scholar spot is for an out of state student. Daughter had a 4.6 GPA and 34 ACT and was a Natl Merit Finalist. With only one OOS spot, not sure she even had a chance.

I had a feeling that it would be very tough to get being OOS. Hopefully I will be able to find some other scholarships to add to the automatic merit scholarship I will be getting.

Yesterdy rcvd IU admissions ltr (accepted!) and also DirAdmit email from KBS (good news!), but no link for Selective Scholarships application. What’s up with that?

I do not know if this program is a nomination scholarship like the Wells Scholars. With the Wells most high schools within Indiana can nominate two students, and many midwest high schools have also send nominees. Several of the 20 Wells Scholars enroll in Kelley. As far as stats it would equal extremely selective schools. Ivy League, Stanford Duke etc.

MomtoShelby - How does she like it so far? Did your daughter apply for the Kelley Scholarship (via SSA app)? My daughter is a direct admit to Kelley and Hutton Honors. But if only 1 spot available for OOS that makes it unlikely.

I have to say I have been impressed with IU admissions process. My daughter loved the campus too. Hard for me to admit as a Purdue alum. :-)

TresHijas: Daughter loves it and is 100% positive that she made the correct choice in IU. She too is a DA to Kelley and Hutton Honors. She completed the SSA and that then automatically allowed her to be considered for the Kelley Scholar program. We are OOS (from Ohio) so the OOS tuition was a huge factor for us! But…sacrafices have been made to make this happen. I’m glad she chose IU despite the fact that she could have gotten much better scholarship awards (NMF awards) from other schools. She’s happy, so we’re happy!

Thanks MomtoShelby. Glad to hear she likes it. We are in a very similar situation wrt choosing schools.
