the killer "W"

So today I was in my psychology class and I was listening to my professor when all of a sudden I heard a quite remarkable comment. He said that if withdraw from a class with a "W" on your record, you're done transferring to UC's(no chance at all to transfer),especially UCLA and Berkeley. However,I have read several threads that people have gotten to these prestigious universities with a few "W"'s.Is he right?

Nope, he’s wrong. In my experience, CCC professors and counselors are wrong more often than they’re right.

NO! I heard directly from a representative at UC Berkeley that they don’t care about W’s as long as you dont get repeated W’s in same class. Also one of the representative from UCLA told me that they just simply delete courses that we got W’s in when making admission decisions. So your professor is incorrect…

VERY incorrect, someone needs to tell your professor not to comment on transfer procedures, he clearly doesn’t understand them. What an embarassment to the Psychology department. Where’s your college?

Wow, it’s bad enough with half the CC counselors being wrong. I hope the other students in your class didn’t take what he said for granted.

I’m sorry to hear you are getting misinformation from your professor. Professors should really stick to teaching and leave the college counseling to professionals. It’s kind of shocking how much misinformation is being spread by professors all over the online forums.

I doubt anybody truly belive the comment of the professor.Like everybody, not all professors and counselors are correct. In my college,I really trust only two counselors since they attend UC workshops in the summer and have been involved intensely with the UCLA.

He is absolutely wrong!! I got into UCSD and UCI last year and I had a “W.”

Even the counselors dont know anything. You can learn everything on the internet or directly through the college you are applying to. My advice (with 3+ years of community college under my belt) is to NEVER trust ANYTHING anbody at a community college tells you…

Counselors are good for understanding policies/placement exams at your specific CC, but they are useless for transferring.

I had 3 W’s and transferred to Berkeley. 1 will not make a difference.

My counselor was pretty knowledgeable. But the rule of thumb goes, make sure you verify the information you’re getting with multiple sources.
