The Latin Lovers Thread

Ya, my teacher is amazing, but no one cares enough to do the work. It makes it a long class.

twitch

Passive periphrastic.
deleo, delere, delevi, deletum v. to destroy, wipe out

Originally spoken incessantly in some form or the other by Cato the Elder.

Carthago delenda est, "Carthage must be destroyed."

Oh ok.

Thanks for the heads up. I wasn't even going to attempt guessing on it. It had a few different possibilities.

I still really like (although gramattically incorrect) Semper ubi sub ubi.

^ My sister made an online store supporting Latin when our school cut it, and she put that on shirts and underwear on the store. Also, I'm not sure if it was just something her teacher came up with, but have you ever heard of Stickdog?

^ No, but looks like I'm going to look it up now.

Oh, good song too. The ending isn't the best, but everything else is very nice, and the intro especially.

I used to love Latin, until we got a new teacher; now I hate it...

Don't hate the language just because you have a bad teacher.

well, I guess what I really hate is the class/teacher, not the subject.

That's what I figured you meant, but I understand. Back in my freshman year I decided I hated geometry because I had this horrible teacher (I got my first ever Cs and my first F on a math test because she never taught us anything). Then I realized I hated the teacher, not really the subject.

Ah, I love Latin. I must say that I love all of it, esspecially the history.

My favorite saying, or word, is "Eheu!" It means "Oh Dear!" or "Alas!"

Ostmustisunt! The Present endings.

It's actually "heu" and o/m, s, t, mus, tis, nt.

lol, I'm sorry.

no me gu'tan los idioma' muerto'

And so "Latin delenda est" means..........:)

We know what it means. We disagree.

I love eheu too!

I don't really like the history. It bores me, but I love the language.

Never learned a word or took a single course. Needless to say, it's presumed that 99.99% of all subjects are boring, and I won't give the benefit of the doubt for this one as well.

Normally I love history, so for me not to like Roman History is kind of odd, but I don't.

OMG! I can't believe I just found this thread (that's what happens when you don't post for a weekend and threads like this are on the second page)

Latin is the beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeest.

I can't wait until next year's AP Latin Lit. I'm reading all 450-odd pages of Edith Hamilton's "Mythology" to prepare (with notes).

nil volentibus arduum

I'm so jealous of everyone who can take AP Latin. I have to self study for it.
