The Lawrenceville School

I've been appyling for the Lawrenceville School this fall and I've had my interview and everything. I think things seem pretty auspicious, but I'm jsut a little ambivalent if I'm actually good enough. My interview went really well and they were really impressed with my background and all that junk, but I'm not sure if she was just being nice. Currently my best friend goes to Lawrewnceville, she was accepted last spring into the school. My original plan for school was Intelrlochen since I had been accepted but my parents made me stay and wait so I can recieve more financial aid and see what else is out there for me. It turns out I'm in love with Lawrenceville. My best friend happens to be good friends with the directors of admission, and she always checks up on me about their decision on accepting me. They told her my interview went so well they want me in the school and I'm in. I just have to finish the application process. Do you think they're just saying that or am I actually in the school? The admissions office knows how in love I am with the school from my interview and how often we email eachother about the application and I also email the music director about anything. So yeah, I'm not sure if this is too good to be true. :/

Hey! It is probably not such a good idea to have your friend constantly checking as well as emailing too much. They could feel like you are getting a bit to desperate. What you should do is focus on finishing a great application. They could love you now but if the content of your app. is of bad quality they might have to reconsider. you have a great beginning right now so take full advantage of it :)

I think admissions decisions are made by a committee, and they are made after the application deadline so that the entire applicant pool can be reviewed. It certainly sounds auspicious for you, but I don't think you can count on being in yet.

you should be able to tell from the interview if you're a sure thing or not.

for mine they told me on the spot i was exactly what they were looking for, etc. so i walked out essentially certain that i was in. you should have gotten some similar feeling if they were so certain.

Well yeah things seem great right now. I just hope it's not too good to be true. At my interview we laughed, joked, and talked quite a bit. With my friend, the admissions office directors are good friend with her, and she doesn't constantly check in, but they tell her what's going on when they see her. Even when I email the admissions office things seem fine, it's quite funny how many smiley face we make, lol.
I feel everything on my application should go quite well, they love my whole deal with music and stuff so I think that will be what pulls me in. Even my essay reflects music, it talks about how certain classical masterpieces reflect my personality and how I am the pieces like Vivaldi's Spring from the Four Seasons and Rachmaninoff's Second piano Concerto. I think my idea for the essay is totally different, or at least unique.

Did the admissions officer actually say "wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more, say no more"? If not, you're in trouble.

Heh, no they didn't say that, but she was like, Wow, that's amazing, or, When you come to Lawrenceville you will see this or that, or, get to do this or that, or the music director will be happy to work with you for Eastman or Curtis. I felt bad though when I told her I was accepted into Interlochen last year and I turned them down for L'ville, she was like what? Wow, are you sure? interlochen is an amazing school. I told her I love L'ville too much. lol. Lame, I know, but it's true.

1- You can't "just know" from the interview. All they want is for people to apply and apply like there is no tomorrow. Betting all your chips on a 20 min session won't be the best idea. How are your credentials, Future? Scores, E.C.s, etcs?

2- L'ville is an amazing school (I'm applying there, as well). Do you have safeties or any other schools that caught your eye?

-

3- Fun is Fun: Hello. My name is Matt Foley and I'm a motivational speaker.

It might be wise to limit what you say on here and tone it down a bit. Lawrenceville sure knows who you are by now and what you are posting on this site. I never think it's a good idea to be too sure of a "sure thing".

I just dont know, but things seem to be going pretty well. I'm not saying I'm in, but I hope I am. If anything I've been doubting because the school is filled with all these brilliant kids and I'm not really that special. The only thing I have to offer is music and some other stuff. My future is set on going to Eastman School of Music or Curtis Institute to major in music performance and minor in music engineering or sonic physics. I'm pretty active in EC's and honestly it looks like I have no life since I dedicate so much time to school, but it's all good. I hope to maybe see you at L'ville if I do get accepted. My safety school's are Interlochen, I'm a definite in I already know, The Governor's Academy, and Taft, but the Hill School has been contacting me quite a bit, so idk. BUt L'ville is at the top just because it seems like the best thing for me.

btw...did you get in?

It's kinda funny this thread got bumped up again. Originally, I had read this thread with a little trepidation, because nothing like that was said to me, during my Lawrenceville interview. I thought my interview went well, but no one said, "when you come here, you can do such and such..." Or even "you're just what we're looking for..." Nope, they were nice and smiled a lot, but that was about it. No emails going back and forth with little smiley faces. Just a handwritten thank you note.

So when I read this post, I thought there was no way I was getting into Lawrenceville. I was happily surprised when I got the acceptance letter, along with a very generous financial aid package. I wonder what happened to FutureLawrentian.
