The Letter saying if you got in or not

When you usually get into a college/university..

the letter is usually going to be in a yellow folder like envelope rather than just a regular white envelope??

haha stupid question, maybe?

Usually you get an e-mail giving you a page to log into. Sometimes
it is a web page that has a single link you click to know what happened.
The dates that augur good news are between December 13th and 17th for
EA, February 1st-4th week for RD likelies (sometimes into March 1st week),
March10-16th for some schools for RD and of course March 31st for RD
at the Ivys and most other schools. Getting large envelopes during this time
is a sign of fantastic news!

Acceptance envelopes are different for different schools. MIT EA acceptances
are famous for its “tubes”. You get everything in a poster tube.

Some other schools like Caltech/Princeton send these huge envelopes in
their school colors. Caltech sends its merit awards via Fed Ex though.

Duke/Stanford send both small and large envelopes - one of them is the likely
letter and the other is the regular package.

For Harvard, you get a phone call from your regional officer and then
an e-mail and finally the package in a large envelope.

You don’t always get a phone call from Harvard.

OP, some schools will send out envelopes informing you that you will “most likely be admitted to _____ college/university” before any of their publicized release dates. These are regular sized envelopes with a simple letter inside and sometimes from financial aid rather than the admissions department. I know Harvard, Stanford, and Cornell do this.

I’m not too worried about the Ivy league schools, because I am not quite that smart haha (or the average CCer)..but from your answers, it seems like it is just based on the school?

So i’m saying..

I should not be disappointed if I see a regular white envelope in the mail when the time comes where I am hearing back from schools?

Correct, depending on the school, you shouldn’t necessarily be worried.

I applied to a couple of small liberal arts schools which sent business sized envelopes informing me of my acceptance, and then a couple weeks later sent big envelopes with a lot of information

Hahaha. The ultimate in worrying about acceptances. Whether it’s yellow or white is determined by the person who orders the supplies. C’mon.

There isn’t a protocol you know.

I got a lot of acceptance letters in regular white envelopes. Most of them were actually.

good luck mate!

Correct, you should not be disappointed. Acceptances can come in small envelopes. With postage and supplies going up, some schools just send a one page acceptance with a “I will/will not attend.” Then, once they get your intent to register, they’ll send all the other forms.

Large envelopes, though, still usually mean acceptance.
