Congratulations,
Applicant!

Dear Mr. Or Ms. So and So:

Congratulations on your admission to Yale College, Class of 2008! Announcing the good news to a candidate is the absolute best part of my job, and it gives me great pleasure to send you this letter. You have every reason to feel proud of our offer of admission. We look forward to having you as a vital contributor to the Yale community .

On the folder that holds your admissions materials, you will find the words of the late George Pierson, a professor and official historian of the University: "Yale is at once a tradition, a company of scholars, and a society of friends." Just two years ago Yale celebrated its 300th anniversary and a tradition of intellectual inquiry that began before the United States was founded. In evaluating candidates for admission to Yale College, the Admissions Committee seeks to identify students whose academic achievements, diverse talents, and strength of character will honor this long tradition of distinguished scholarship-and of friendship.

You may reply to our offer of admission at any time in the coming months. While the final Candidate's Reply Date is May 1, we would love to hear from you before then! You may return the enclosed reply card to us at any time. Bulldog Days, our on-campus program for admitted students, is scheduled for April 19-20. A detailed invitation will be mailed to you in early April.

I am thrilled, both for you and for the College, at the prospect of your joining us next fall. Welcome to Yale!

Best wishes,

Richard H. Shaw

Dean of Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid

is this ... the letter that's online, or the snailmail letter?

Well, I hope Dean Shaw isn't telling is to "click" the actual paper version.

edit: posted to slow :p

whimper whimper painpainpainpain fills my body....

aw. come on. now i know what letter to look for (top-left: W... the three tips) when i slowly uncover the printed copy of the decision.
no fun!!
but, zuma, tell me. when you log in, is the letter like, RIGHT there? or do you have to follow a link?

You log in with your unique particulars, and I think it hits you right in the face. I don't remember that you go an additional step. There is a counter that tells you how many times you've viewed your decision. I think you get the idea, "Enough already, go celebrate."

Yeah...or "Enough already, go mourn and drown in failure." :(

or .... "No, we didn't make a mistake. Seriously. We don't want you."

No, ambrosia, that's Columbia, not Yale.

Good Lord, I Want To See That Letter!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: dang, it wouldn't let me post in all caps. You get the idea, though.

Let Me Try

dang is my new favorite word. Mostly because of Napoleon Dynamite. :)

Am I the only one that got a palpable chill while reading that letter?

No, you certainly aren't. (Although that might have been partially because it was almost 2 AM and freezing in my house when I read it.) :)

It made me want to get up and start dancing.

Who's Napoleon Dynamite?

Its a new movie out here in America. Well, not so new. Its a few months old by now. We'll show it to you at Yale next year ;)

sorry to post something off topic, but i need to know: how do I prevent CC forum responses from clogging up my e-mail w/ out having to unsubscribe from each thread after I post in it?
