I am having trouble with studentix. The website said to call but then they said that they were not taking new memberships. So I am a bit confused, can anyone help me? Is there a way to sign up online?

babygiraffeboots,
My D was able to sign up online at:

www.lctstudenttix.org

She then received a member ID number and a password in order to access the site.

thanks, it doesn't seem to be working though. I guess they arn't giving out anymore memberships.

I ended up getting the cheaper lodge tickets. I'm seeing it on thursday:) I am so excited!!!!!!!

They told me the same thing at first! But that was for the ADULT memberships; there's a waiting list. At least I think that's what happened to you. Make sure you tell them you want STUDENT tickets. (It is possible that they no longer have them, but that would be too strange seeing we just got ours 1 1/2 days ago!) Hope this helps - let us know how you make out!

Also, someone wrote the website incorrectly. Here it is:

I am blown away. My father spent some gargantuan amount on Spamalot tickets, and I just got fourth row Light in the Piazza tickets for $22!!!!! That student membership is amazing. I am so excited to see it this Saturday @ 2.

Any other CC people planning on going? Maybe we could meet up.

Does anyone know of other great student discounts for the following shows:

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Sweet Charity
25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Doubt

Glengarry Glen Ross
Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?

you can find carious discounts at www.playbill.com, www.hitshowclub.com, www.broadwayoffer.com and here's a sight with some rush/lottto policies

talkinbroadway.com also has a whole section on rush and standing room tickets, it's a great source.

Alwaysamom --THANKS so much for the Lincoln Center site for tickets!!! I never knew this existed!!!

Here's another fabulous site - only for high schoolers unfortunately! There are a varied amount of venues including Broadway, City Center, the Met, all the museums and symphonies, etc - print out their seasonal book to read up on all of them.
www.highfivetix.org
All tickets are just $5 and the students are allowed to buy one extra ticket for anyone. You can buy 5 and get one free and take a bunch of kids/adults as long as there is a 1:1 ratio or more of kids:adults. Again when you pick up the tickets, you must have a valid student id. They change their program 4 times a year and to get like the Broadway Rent tickets - you need to get on the site in the first minute. My d has seen two shows already and its been fabulous. The tickets are in the back of the venue, as you might expect, but its better than not going at all!

You're welcome! :) There are many ways to see Broadway shows without paying top dollar, especially for students. It's great that these options are available to those who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford to go. Rush policies are probably the best option because they are available for every performance of the shows which offer the policies, they're usually the front two rows of orchestra seats, and generally around $20. Not all shows have a rush policy, though, and for those some of these other options are available. Rent started the policy of 'rushing' for tickets when it opened on Broadway nine years ago. It was a combination of innovative marketing tool and opportunity for young people to see theatre which they presumably could not afford. It's been a wonderful phenomenon which exists now at most Broadway theatres, many off-Broadway, and at most major theatres across the continent. :)

Just a couple of other points, rush policies are sometimes only for students (and you must have valid photo student i.d.) but not always. In fact, Rent's is not limited to students. Secondly, while I think it's wonderful what these discount options offer students, I think we need to remember that the original intention for them was for individuals who would not otherwise be able to afford to go. Those of us who are able to afford theatre tickets occasionally, should, in my opinion, be supporting the world that our children hope to be in someday, by paying full-price or going to a venue such as TKTS which sells discounted tickets which otherwise would go unsold. Just my opinion.

Good point!!! When it is a show I really want to see I'm pay full ticket price for center orchestra. These are venues that I would not necessarily see unless very discounted!

Highfive has some really good find, in september they have tickets for Madame Butterfly which my mom and I will probably take advantage of because on certain night you can get 2 for 5 tickets.

Thanks for those wonderful sites!! We are going to NYC for a week in August and I usually just camp out at the tkts booth unless it is something we are dying to see in which we cave and pay full price, but how nice to know there are other options especially for students out there! Thanks everyone!

Just got back from the theatre, what a wonderful show. I also told Kelly that I was leaving for OCU on sunday:) The cast was very sweet. Definatley go see it if you have the chance. I found that it really got me emotionally, just certain lines and notes, wow, they got me. The costumes were also incredible and of course the orchestrations were fabulous. My mom liked but thinks that Adam Guettel still has a way to go.

If anyone is going to be in NY soon Matthew Morrison's understudy, David Burnham is going to be covering some performances soon. And I would say he is just as amazingly talented as matt and with I would arguably say a better voice ( although I absolutely LOVED MAtt, don't get me wrong) but David BUrnham would be worth seeing. I ahve seen him in CHildren of Eden as Cain and believe he is very very well worthwhile to look at. JUst a note, everyone is great but maybe something ot think about...I've seen shows with both casts and both were awesome.

I saw the matinee performance to Light in the Piazza yesterday, and was blown away. It was visually stunning. Like the majority of you, I am primarily a performer and only engage in the technical side of theatre when I can be of use in a production I am cast in, but the lighting and sets in this show are some of the best I have seen. When I sat in my seat and looked at the opening set it seemed so heavy and emplaced, when it moved my heart must have skipped a beat. Obviously, Victoria Clark and the rest of the cast was fantastic.

For the love of God, with student tickets only $22 and the show running until the end of the year, go to New York (You know you want to!) and see this show.

My D is at Cap21 this summer and a group of kids went to see this the other night with student discount. She said that this was the best show she has ever seen and that the staging of it absolutely blew her away. She has seen many shows so I was very surprised at how adamant she was about this one. I can't wait to see it myself....

I love the fact that so many MT hopefuls are going in droves to see this show! It kind of gives me hope for the future of musical theatre - that there really still is an audience and appreciation for a return to more classical elements within a musical theatre production. I'm already looking ahead to seeing it again next month with my older D!

We just returned from a weekend trip to NYC to see Wicked for the third time (brought some friends who hadn't seen it yet and daughter's boyfriend who is new to this whole MT life- we have a close friend in the cast so we have been able to get tickets when we want them). We also used information I had gathered from all of you on this thread and got the studentix memberships for our daughters and got tickets to Light in the Piazza! I am still blown away by the beauty of that show. The sets and costumes alone were incredible, but the TALENT! WOW! Victoria Clark was absolutely phenominal. Actually, there was not a person in the cast that I didn't love (which is unusual), but she earned her Tony award in my opinion! I was so carried away by the story that I can only liken it to reading a really good book that you just can't put down and never want to end! Truly, if you haven't seen this show yet, do yourself a favor and get there! My whole family loved it, and I wept through the entire final song! Thanks to those on this forum who brought this show to my attention, and also for the studentix info. Nothing like terrific $20 seats to add to the experieince.
