Portland is expecting three more inches of snow tomorrow, so whether my daughter’s Christmas Eve flight actually takes off is … up in the air (sorry). The last two attempted bookings were canceled.
But one nice thing – public transportation is very spotty and taxis aren’t answering their phones, but Reed College (which of course is closed for winter break) has instituted an airport shuttle.

Leg 2 now in the air. In and out of Dallas on time. How rare is that? Two days before Christmas.
Her last leg should be pain free. It is American Eagle that basically goes up and down all day long. The only bummer is she has a 3 hour layover in LA.

This has been a really bad holiday travel season so far. Our airport might have some problems tomorrow - a few inches of snow is predicted to fall overnight. If the prediction holds, Greyhound will be grounded again. Seattelites are really mad that the city decided against the use of salt on its streets.

When the weather is really nasty, it does not matter if the college is far or nearby; I heard of the reports of local UW students stranded on campus because there were no bus service and the campus streets turned into ice rinks, so even the parents could not come and rescue their kids. I can not even imagine if my kid chose a WA school in Eastern Washington or Oregon and decided to drive home for the break

Yea again mom60! Next time be sure she has some crackers, fruit, cheese, ??? something in her carryon. Ugh. I thought she was home when she got to LAX. Three flights? Yikes.

Does she go through DFW on her return to school? Maybe I’ll bring her a goodie bag. Too bad they’ve gotten so strict about who can go to the boarding area.

My heart goes out to all of you suffering along with your children - I know I would be glued to the computer screen to get updates on their flight!!

Thank God - son is finally home! Good luck to the rest of our weary travelers out there.

My son finally got home this afternoon too. He couldn’t get a flight as a standby into our regional airport, so he settled on one to another airport a couple hours away (Klamath Falls, Eileen
)… which is fine except that it’s a couple hours through very high, very snowy elevations. We borrowed a Suburban with 4wd and traction tires (with chains in the back if it came to that) and it was still a very hairy, very slippery drive.

Anyway… he’s home now and passed out asleep.

Thanks to all for your empathy and/or commiseration over the last 5 travel days. If any CC kids are still enroute, may they arrive home very soon.

Fabulous news that your son is home, 'rentof2!!! Sounds kind of a scary trip for you, though!

I’m glad to hear that the kids got home safely. Happy Holidays everyone!

'rent of 2 and Oregonian mom, yippee for you! We haven’t had cable/internet for 48 hours, so I couldn’t se your progress. Hopefully, my son will be on a flight from Las Vegas in about an hour…please, please, pretty pretty please???

Here’s hoping for a good outcome with that flight from Las Vegas, SJTH.

My fingers and toes are crossed for you!!! Was your power out, or just the cable?

It is simply a mess here. We shoveled (4 of us) just to get our 4 wheel drive with snow studed tires out of our neighborhood for 2 hours yesterday. We are use to “black ice” but not so much to 14 inch snow drifts. Since I am a super anxious (LOL) we always have sleeping bags/water/winter clothes/some snacks…in the car for any distance…but seriously this in not the norm for around here. and within 24 hours it might all melt and be no big deal.
Still we know of a # of family friends who might not make it in by Christmas.

We are off to get D from the airport. We are blessed that we can leave home 15 minutes before her flight lands and catch her as she walks out the gate.
I am feeling grateful that we were one of the lucky one’s. D had 3 flights today. Each left on time or a few minutes early.
Keeping my fingers crossed for those still not home.

I am so happy to read the stories of those who have arrived home, safe and sound. I will keep those still on the journey in my thoughts.

He’s home, he’s home!!! Thanks for the good thoughts–and I hope everyone gets where they are supposed to be ASAP!!!

Excellent! WildChild got home last night a little after 10. Flight from Phila went fine. He, H and I fly back up there on the 26th to be with my family through New Year’s. This will be our first Christmas in a number of years with both kids home. D has spent the last two Christmases with branches of her (now) husband’s family and both she and her husband are looking forward to being here in their new home town with us for Christmas. They both decided last Christmas with her h’s father, stepmother etc was the worst either had ever had. One glitch for them is that he (a new doc) is on call all day today and all night, which cuts out all church. She’s singing at the late service at her church.

Frankfort to Seattle - couldn’t believe it. D finally home!

A word of warning for anyone traveling to/through Seattle: it snows like crazy here in Seattle again! I expect the airport to have problems again later in the afternoon.

Local news reported that some passengers on an Alaska flight out of SEA got sick because of the deicing solution sucked into the plane ventilation system. CNN says 2 are in critical condition, but the local guys do not say there was not anything more serious than eye irritation -?

[Passengers injured when de-icer sucked into jetliner - CNN.com](http://www.cnn.com/2008/TRAVEL/12/24/holiday.travel/index.html)

I feel very sorry for these travelers.

I couldn’t find a parking spot at airport last night, and had to keep circling for 50 minutes. Having read all these tales, an hour delay and no parking seemed like minor problems.

Hope all get home safely

Hooray, SJTH! So glad your son made it home!
