I thought I'd create a thread for any other Loomis enthusiasts. If there are any current students or parents, please pitch in. So who else on CC is applying to Loomis ?

I’m applying to loomis too. I’m excited but scared at the same time.

The quad reminded me of Thomas Jefferson`s UVA. I liked the feeling of the architecture. Anyone else pick up on that.
I also went to a great BBQ place next to campus. People in the town seem nice to the students. :)

@maddog15 The Loomis quad was actually modeled after UVA. :)

I haven’t visited but the campus looks awesome. The actual buildings and classrooms seem modern. I like the look of the Pratt field and the new Math/Science center looks awesome. I hope I get in. It seems like a school with a perfect balance between academics and social life. The only downside I can see is that there is no crew .

@Swissbrit, You applied w/out visiting the school?
Yeah, I wish they had crew too.

I am applying there as my first choice! I am so scared … and I went to the BBQ place also it was so good and yeah the QUAD is modeled after UVA and its soooo pretty but its kinda wierd how many day stdents they have 40% , but that could be cool having people who live there as friends can’t wait till march 10th

@Maddog- Yeah I applied w/out visiting. I would love to visit though. Do you row crew maddog ? I asked my Interviewer why and she told me that the rivers were to rough, or something like that. I can’t say that Loomis is my first choice because I also love SPS and DA but I could see myself at all of those schools. Do any of you guys know how we will be notified on M10 ?

@swissbrit, did you visit SPS and DA? I take it you`re in Europe.
Yes, I row crew :D

No I didn’t visit any schools I applied to (long story), I actually live in the U.S; although I am “Swiss and Brit” thus the name. What are your splits for Crew ? Are you recruited ?

No I
m a major beginner. Went to crew camp and got hooked. I
m being recruited for another sport.

I’m a novice but I take it religiously. It’s like a drug. I work out 6 out of 7 days and I lift weights after practice. I used to play travel soccer in Europe so I’m pretty good at that but I haven’t played in a while… Crew is a 3 season sport where I go to school. Kind of limits what sports I do lol. But still, stick with crew, it’s really rewarding.

I’m a current LC student. the large amount of day students is actually awsome, cause you can get off campus, go bowling, shopping…etc with your day student friends. It’s also yet another culture of people you get to meet.
true that there’s no crew, but there are so many other sports to choose from. Also, if you can find a nearby team (not through a school) you can get permission to do that as your sport instead of something in school.
This campus is awsome, and REALLY pretty. The quad is so nice, uniform, and cozy looking. The academic building all have a similar architecture which is nice, but because none of them are touching, it doesn’t matter that they all look different. Most of the academic buildings (Math/science, music, english) are brand new (last 2 years) so your in for a treat. The campus size is also awsome, it doesn’t take more then 10 minutes to get to and from any buildings.
any other questions?

Is the harkness method used ? Also, how challenging academically is Loomis ?

ok seriously people can someone tell me whats up with Loomis reviewing the application first and looking at transcripts before conducting an interview??

They don’t do that unless you are a late applicant… which you are at this point

Deerhotch, the same thing happened to me with the applications but I applied through a program that mailed in the application exactly on january 15 maybe if you mailed the application on January 15 they got the application late and thats why their reviewing the application

With so many day students, does Loomis have snow days?
I`m having one today;)

lucky! i got a 2-hour delay but do they have snow days?

i sent mine out on exactly the 15th…
