<p>Well I'm interested in being good in statistics and being good in programming so if I were to not get into the CS major, I'd fall back on Statistics, something I'd want to major in any way.</p>

<p>If your major/minor are very similar...just flip-flop them as a backup plan.</p>
<p>I have no shame saying (I guess 13+ years in the industry breeds confidence) that I did NOT get into the CS program as an undergrad. At the time, the CS program were accepting on 3.5+.</p>
<p>Luckily my intended minor (more like a concentration) was mathematics so I just flip-flopped the major/minor. Even more luck was that the year I did not gain acceptance to the CS program....the computational math major was created at my school. It gave me "preferred enrollment" in to the CS courses up to the junior level. I petitioned the chair for a few more CS courses and the rest is history.</p>
