I'm applying to the Masters School (mostly because of its location near New York City), and I was wondering if anyone here knows anything about it. I didn't have a chance to go up for a campus visit, so all my information is based on the website and viewbooks. I just want to know about things like dorm life (how are the dorms? I know they're all singles for girls, but are they really cramped?), the basic demographic of the school, social interaction (exclusivity, etc.), and the academics and arts programs. I know it's a tier 2 school, so if someone could tell me if there really is a significant difference between the academics compared to a tier 1 school.

Also, my chances please. I know everyone hates these, but I'm not really sure about the standards for a school that's not a "top school." I have a 94% overall on my SSATs. Mostly As and Bs, transcript-wise. My interview went really well, and I feel comfortable about the rest of my application. As for my ECs, I am very into theatre, and musical performance (I play the piano and the guitar quite adamantly). I've done Varsity Policy Debate which I explained that I do not plan on continuing but it could help me nonetheless. I come from an unrepresented state in the south and am not applying for financial aid.

I would really really appreciate any information anyone has. Thanks!!!!!! March 10th is just too far away.

The arts programs are very strong at The Masters School, and you certainly will be a train ride away from NYC. Their percent boarding is somewhat low. I was on their campus once several years ago and it looked attractive. It was at night, so I couldn't see all the buildings. It's not as large as some boarding campuses, but then it is so close to NYC. I have no idea about your chances, but from the little you have said you are within the range of their accepted students.

Don't even think about tiers. The tier 1 school for Alyria is the one in which you will thrive.

Hey, I'm really glad you're applying to Masters! I'll most likely be applying late to Masters and several other schools if I don't get into the other schools I applied to for regular admission. It's a great school and I think you have a really good chance. Good luck!

Yeah, I like it, but I think I would do so much better and enjoy school more in a boarding environment.

I called Masters today about late admissions and the person who answered the phone was kind of rude. She sounded offended that I was asking about late admissions. Anyway, she said there isn't any FA available for late applicants so I won't be applying there. I tried calling Hackley as well but they didn't answer.
