I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with the Meisner Extension; I'm very interested in this studio, but I want to know more about the studio beyond what it says on the NYU website. I tried looking for blogs, but most of them were by CAP21 students, film students, and had no information about Meisner. Thanks in advance!!

I wish I knew something about Meisner. Maybe all the Meisnerites are busy getting some well-deserved care and feeding.

thanks for trying to help..i don't know why they are so hard to find..

bump..

I was around when the Meisner Extension was born at NYU in the mid 90s. I LOVED it. I still teach/use Meisner's work. Lauri Peters, the founder of the studio, is awesome.

She's no longer there, so I can't vouch for the current school. I imagine that it's still great!

Peace and Love,

You are so wonderful!! I've been posting for weeks and it seems that Meisner isn't as popular as CAP21 or Atlantic. I found out on LiveJournal that there were about only 15 people in Meisner, a very low number. I already know from their website that they are dedicated to the psychological aspect of acting to the point that you actually "become" that character. Can you tell me more of what you learned from the Meisner Extension and the acting techniques that separate it from the others?

Not to say that that training you'd get at the Tisch Meisner Extension wouldn't be excellent; but, if you want Meisner training, you can also get it at Rutgers and CCM Drama for about half the price.

thesiren, my D is in Atlantic not Meisner but I can tell you that Vicki Hart, who is director of Meisner Extension is probably the most well-respected teacher of the Meisner method in the country today. She used to be at Mason Gross, which fishbowl mentioned in her post, and Tisch is very happy, indeed, to have her teaching its students. :)

Again, I don't know Ms. Hart, but I trust that she's doing fine work at NYU.

Meisner's work is based on investing in the moment to moment interaction between the actors. The goal is NOT to "become" the character. Instead, Meisner says that "Acting is Living Truthfully Under Imaginary Circumstances."

I was at the Atlantic for two years and I loved it there. I enjoyed the text analysis and the people. When I moved to Meisner, I felt liberated and free. It's a great technique of acting!

Enjoy!

Yours,

P.S. I also teach Meisner at the Columbia Gorge School of Theatre (www.TheatreCamp.com).

I want to know what grades ill need for meisner because im just starting out in highschool and i REALLY want to go there. One of my favorite actors went there and I want to be famous and be as good of an actor as him. ( Justin Bartha. Riley poole in National Treasure 1&2, also starred in the tv series Teachers, co-starred in failure to launch, played a part in gigli, and was Doug in the hangover. I just really would like someone to either give me a link to their website or just let me know what grades you need.

I am studying Meisner with James Price an actual protege and friend of Sanford Meisner at [New York City acting school - Acting classes and actor training in a private, New York City, studio environment](http://www.actingstudio.com/). I am working with the 1-Year Acting For Film and Theatre Conservatory. I heard he was the top evaluated teacher at New York Film Academy, and is in the top three Meisner teachers/studios in New York. It is also one of the most affordable and I am loving it.
