In general, what do you guys suppose is the minimum SAT score for an AA with overall exceptional credentials (3.9 GPA, Track and Field MVP, honors & A.P courses, etc..) to consider applying to Ivy League schools with. If you guys can give a break down for each school that would be more than appreciated, but just in general is fine. Thank you!

Well, in any case I believe that we, African Americans, should be scoring just as high as any other race. But based on previous AA Ivy Leaguers I would say between 1900-2200.

Oh yes, without a doubt we should aim for the best score possible. But I was just curious being that there is somewhat of a difference for us. Thanks for your feedback!

@ Kali,
Below are a couple resources that can give you some insight. Also, if you do a lot of research on CC. You will find that there are a variety of factors in a holistic acceptance.

Create the best HOLISTIC package that YOU can, which includes, GPA, Rank, Scores, EC’s and Essays. Good luck to you!

HS Class of 2010 CC of 2014

PS. Also, try not to reach for the minimum, step up your game for the max, it makes you more competitive!!!

Ah, most forums indicate that basic ivy sat ranges (1900-2200) hold true for most ivies, but not HYP (the big 3- harv., yale.,princet.) What do you guys have to say about that? Are there any (in recent years) 1900 AA HYP students?

I know two freshman AA girls at Harvard. One scored a 1910 the 2150

It’s fair to say that at schools of a high caliber have a smaller range of scores than you might find at other schools. At Harvard, none of the minorities I am acquainted with scored less than a 1900; all lower scores have come from athletic recruits.

Thebep, justadream92 presents one example of a sub-1900 student, but his other accomplishments far outweighed his SAT score. Remember, the process is holistic. Don’t zoom in on one particular aspect of an application and obsess over it.

And OP, there is no “minimum score,” simply a range of values within which your score may fall.

Thank you for all the very insightful responses, everyone! And I do realize that your application as a whole is more important than one specific area, I was just curious. And once again, I will not reach for the minimum but the my highest of my potential.

This was a really good question. Thank you for asking it. I scored just below a 2000 on the SAT and was worried if this would hurt even if I was a URM. But I have good SAT IIs scores too.

Isn’t it reverse racism? You have a higher chance of getting into college based upon race. Admissions should be race/income blind. It should be based solely on your merit as a student.

Well they let people in just because their parents or grandparents went their what about that ? I just asking seems everyone focus on AA and not on legacy.

I know a girl who got into Penn (2014) with an 1850. I believe anything over an 1850+ should suffice, but your GPA needs to be high (she had a 4.7). For HYP, it should be 1950+ though.

I think a AA should be submitted if their GPA was high and they had lots of honors and AP classes because SAT do not prove anything. Its is one day of testing and anyone can have a off day but GPA is four years.
