I just want to ask if the interviews go throughout Jan, or spill to mid (and maybe end) feb as well, since you had said on a forum that there is till mid feb for the interviews?
I’m sorry if this is factually incorrect, but I’d love your view on this.
As far as I know Skype interviews are not finished yet, in fact they just started this week, is my understanding. MIT will try to interview everyone who wants an interview. There are a lot of interviewers in Mumbai but larger cities everywhere have a lot of applicants. There is no guarantee for US or international students, and some US students are waiting too. Its random chance, its nothing to do with your application, but its a matching process and if the Mumbai ECs are overwhelmed they have probably submitted your name to MIT for a Skype interview.
Thanks a lot! Hopefully I get some form of EC contact soon.
Thanks for telling me the fact that its random. I thought my chances of getting in were over.
@TheGuy1 Hey dude did you get your interview yet?? I live in Bangalore and I’m going to start freaking out if I’m the only person who still hasn’t gotten one!
@UniquePeanut I didnt get one, though they told me that not getting one and getting one have the same chances of admissions, while getting one and turning down the offer to participate in one reduces your chances.
They did tell me that a skype interview will most likely happen in the next few days due to my location and EC situation.
They didn’t tell me any of that. Just - " we don’t confirm EC availability for individual students. After you submit your application, you may be contacted by an Educational Counselor if there’s one available."
@UniquePeanut. To get more information you can call MIT admissions, and I suspect some other applicants are doing that, although they are busy, you might get more information about what your location situation is. (ECs working through the list or Skype or really no chance left, sorry) It may be best just to wait and see what happens. Are you on the east or west coast, or international? I think only 50% of international students get interviews in some countries. If thats your case, then you have nothing to worry about. If you are in a region where the majority of students do get interviews, you may be at a very slight disadvantage, but its not a ding, MIT just has less information about you. If you are likely to interview well, thats too bad, but if you are very shy, it could actually be an advantage to not interview if you don’t like talking abut yourself. Either way its not a big deal.
