The MIT Slaughter: A Bad Sign for HYPS

Hey guys,

Well first off, I did not apply to MIT. However, I- like many of you- was interested in seeing how the MIT decisions looked so that I could better anticipate how the ivy decisions would look this march 31st/april 1st. What I saw was a complete fiasco. Seriously, people with Siemens/Intel/2400s were being rejected like there was no tomorrow. Then, I went back to last year. The decisions for the class of 2013 were bad, but they didnt seem anywhere near as bad as they were this year. So, does this indicate HYPS decisions are gonna be worse than normal this year too?

Thanks,
Robbie

It indicates that you shouldn’t work hard in high school, and should instead spend your time attempting to inflict disadvantages on yourself to overcome and doing things that are so obscure that you could conceivably be the best in the world at them.

EDIT: And I should say that I tend to agree with MIT’s decisions more than I agree with other T1 schools. They are probably the least guilty of this of all the schools I’ve applied to.

There aren’t that many cross-admits between MIT and HYPS…the schools are completely different.

Hopefully I’m not at a loss after being WL :)

Or it just reinforces the truth that we all should know by now: admissions is a crapshoot.

I’m sorry, christiansoldier :frowning: Honestly, though, I’m SURE you’ll get in at one of the top places. I’m thinking along the lines of Harvard…

^ Dude, I know plenty of Siemens/Intels/etc here. But there’s more to life than that.

CC is not a representative sample.

Because I know people often read CC for advice, this is not good advice for future MIT applicants to take.

Yes, I should make it clear that I was being facetious. I don’t mean that anyone should actually attempt to move to North Korea just so they can escape from a reeducation camp.

And I should add that I’m in a bad mood, just like 91% of MIT’s applicants.

Throw me in your group fellas. I’m in the same boat :(

Point taken. You are correct this is not a great way to get into MIT. It is, however, a FANTASTIC movie plot.

I feel like he will say no, but that would be awfully neat.

ha ha… i didnt apply either… but i already changed my excel sheet format from being waitlisted to rejected for HYPS and from accepted to waitlisted for cornell, coulmbia, rice, hopkins and penn… ha ha… its funny… coz the scoreline so far has been 4 - 0,(4 acceptances, 0 rejections), Chicago, Gtech, UT Austin, UIUC… but now i have a feeling its going to be…4 - 9…

ladies and gentleman… we are going to be roasted alive on a silver platter and dipped in acerbic acid… on March 31st 5 PM/
Cheers to that

People. calm down. who cares about MIT now? You can’t do anything. Rather focus on other colleges and show MIT how wrong they were. Be yourself and make it to the top without them. 1000 people that are accepted will have better start positions, but that doesn’t mean you can’t show them who is the boss and finish better than them. handala, i feel sorry for you and djokovic especially but moving on. if a guy with math olympiad can’t get in, who am I to complain? btw, Chris, don’t even try to turn a good side to us. there is no a good side right now. we got rejected and we got to face it. you just enjoy being an MIT member and greet all the admitted people when they arrive.

Actually, I got waitlisted so I still care about MIT and there still is something I can do about it.

i was thinking only about rejected people :D

HYPhoper, you are completely incorrect. Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Stanford (not necessarily in that order) are actually the four schools with the largest applicant overlap with MIT. While this does not mean that if you pick a HYPS applicant, it’s likely they applied to MIT, it does mean if you pick an MIT applicant, it’s likely they applied to HYPS (relative to other places).

MIT Chris: While that does seem like a fantastic movie plot, we could take the MIT angle out and have the next Best Picture.

I am now very happy that I did not apply to MIT. I prob. wouldn’t have gotten in :o waits for Harvard and Stanford to post rejections :D

Since I thought of this movie idea, I will only allow you to use it if the movie stars Bill Murray as the young John Kerry of college admissions and Tom Green as his worthless friend.

^<solemn> Will you be collecting royalties as well?</solemn>
