This Aunt OG finally got the invitation for the June 3 wedding near Saratoga Springs - Cocktail Attire. Now I’m not sure my pleated midi skirt is dressy enough, even assuming I can find an appropriate top. It is the right color though since the wedding color is bright teal!
Husband is disappointed that son doesn’t want to wear his 30 year old suit (all of son’s old suits are too small) that is technically the correct size. Son took suit to a Nordstrom free styling session and learned jacket is too wide across the shoulders, which can’t be altered, and pants legs are too wide. Husband thinks Nordstrom just says that to sell clothes. Son and I think husband is delusional, and son will be shopping for a new suit at Nordstrom Rack. He’s in Seattle so mothership store.
As soon as I recover from this nasty stomach bug, I’ll be hitting the local stores - starting with TJ Maxx and Nordstrom Rack! I certainly don’t want to pay much for a dress I may never wear again. After all, I am just an out-of-town relative! I have found plenty of choices online if I feel like going that route; it’s been fun browsing with all my limitations- don’t want solid color, don’t want much of a defined waist, need to be able to wear bra, prefer blues and greens, etc. I’m liking the idea of a floral if I find one I like; embossed patterns are also nice.
Nice selection of dresses! I like the second and the last one and also your midi skirt if you can find a nice top. Your husband is funny, of course, your son needs a new suit!
@Marilyn I am pretty partial to that first dress…because it’s the same one I wore (but full length) to my daughter’s wedding. I love the blue. The fabric is not snug, and has some give. It’s a very comfortable dress…and is…machine washable.
My sister wore an Adrianna Papell dress to my son’s wedding last May. She ended up in some of the formal pictures.
Amazon still has the dress and it looks similar to the style of the Alex Evenings one you like. Adrianna Papell Trumpet Skirt Matelasse Midi. Rose Multi floral. It was very comfortable and flattering.
Thanks, pretty dress but not my color palette unfortunately. I hope to find something in person at local stores.
Side note, went on the wedding registry and sent off three items from our family (son was happy to be included). About $500 total; Williams Sonoma. I moved quickly before her upscale family nabbed my choices. Two items are pasta attachments for the Kitchenaid someone already bought. I have decades old hand crank machines and know the delights of fresh home made pasta. The third is a citrus press because I send an occasional box of lemons from our trees.
My son and his wife had the pasta attachment on their registry too. Good you acted fast once the registry went up. I had a couple things in mind the day their registry went up and by the time I went in to purchase them (same day), someone had already grabbed what I had in mind!
I’m sure you’ll find a nice dress. I went in person to Dillard’s, Macy’s, and Nordstrom, but didn’t have any luck. Ended up ordering online from Dillard’s. Have fun looking!
Our son makes pasta dough by hand and cranks through his Atlas. FDIL has a pasta attachment on her Kitchen Aid but only uses it when he’s not around or she’ll never hear the end of what an abomination her “lazy, fake pasta” is. DS feels the attachment reveals a deep character flaw. The two of them arguing about it is hilarious.
So far, S and fiancée don’t have any items in their registry and I’m not sure they ever will. We shall see. We already gave them 2 very large checks for their engagement, that we told S they can use as they prefer—wedding, honeymoon, towards down payment in real estate, whatever. We still want to get them “something” but no idea what. Maybe something will occur to us when we visit in May.
I send to nephew, niece, and brother once or twice a year. Husband sends to sister and family friend. We only have three small trees but they do well! We certainly can’t use them up. I just wish the USPS hadn’t eliminated regional rate boxes; they were the perfect size and a slightly cheaper shipping rate than regular priority boxes.
You just send them in USPS Flat Rate boxes? Any cushioning materials inside to protect the lemons? I have a very productive lemon tree as well and I give them to local restaurants I frequent but I could send them to family and friends as well.
Yes, the priority mail boxes. I guess I’ll have to use the medium size now. I do cushion them with some crumbled newspaper and such, plus line the box with a plastic shopping bag (from our old collection). I put two or three lemons each in a newspaper sleeve. Sometimes I thrown in a few Valencia oranges from the farmers market but they’ve gotten expensive so maybe not in future.
