If you want to try a straighter dress:

For me, someone who would not dress as formal as most MOB/MOG would - and as it seemed some here were looking for, I feel like this could be a standout dress. But I absolutely understand that others are looking for more glitz or glamour! To me this is more than a church dress, less than a formal dress.
Absolutely, I did not want glitz or glamour at all as MOG last year and settled on a simple Adrianna Papell sheath dress. But, lots of the 30 somethings at the wedding had on florals, interesting midis, and I didnāt want to try to look like them either! Itās all what @Colorado_mom wants and I believe she said itās a semi formal garden wedding ? So, solid or floral sound okay but maybe a little on the less casual side ? But, i am no fashion person and @Colorado_mom needs to go at the end of the day with what she feels best in. And Iām sure she will find the perfect dress that feels right to her!
I think florals overwhelm @Colorado_mom, and I agree that she should pick a dress that compliments her figure, maybe something like this or this (pick your color). I would stick with a solid in a summery color (let lace do the floral work).
Thanks for the all the help. Yes, I agree my own dress works well on my figure. Was hoping that would be a good starting point for discussion with the salespeople at Dillards today. Alas, not fortunate like back in 2016 for daughterās weddingā¦ had a hard time even getting them to unlock a dressing room door at the formal section. (Maybe they were busy in the prom section?). And much of their stock was size 12 and up.
Appreciate all the links. They have helped me in my thought process. But I donāt want folks wasting more time to add more links because Iām really not wanting to play more mailorder-roulette with sizing variation for my non-standard shape. Unless itās to size up/down on something Iāve tried on at store or an order selected with the guidance of salesperson. The attention at WHBH was fabulous, but their stock was limited.
I have decent choices the family likes. If I find a better choice, will let you know.
Who else has been MOB/MOG shopping, just quietly following along?
Hereās a dress in the cut being talked about most recently:
Thatās really pretty - thanks. I do see there are Nordstrom stores in Denver, so I should add a stop there when we go there to shop at Davidās (suggested to me by a friend, but based on website not sure it will be fruitful).
We will look forward to hearing all about the wedding afterwards if youāre willing to share!
@Colorado_mom , Since you have choices you and your family already like, you are in good shape! Looking forward to hearing about your final choice and about the wonderful wedding of your son!
I appreciate you want to go in person, though online has more selection and availability of more sizes. If you like the Eliza J dress I just showed you tonight that is at Nordstrom, and they donāt have it in the store, you could try on something else by Eliza J to get a sense of their sizing. The dress I showed you has a similar cut to the dress you went shopping in, but is, of course, a dressier fabric.
Hereās another Eliza J dress at Nordstrom of a similar cut:
Also, if you want a solid, hereās another Eliza J dress with that shape, at Nordstrom:
EDIT: the link takes you to Navy, but I was trying to show you the light blue one! Switch colors!
The light blue is prettyā¦ solid color but nice texture/pattern too.
So many lovely optionsācan make your head spin. I am glad I have at least one dress I like that fits and was a great price.
It smoothed out your hips and thighs. You do look smaller with the shape wear. Itās doing itās job.
My niece is getting married this year. I thought I would look at Anthropologie. Filtered dresses that came in my size SP. Found some dresses but none of them are currently available!
This drives me crazy about Anthro. Show me dresses that I can actually buy! And anything I ever like there, stock is low or practically nonexistent because unless I buy the minute it comes out, itās never available.
There is tons of time to find a dress and Iām only a guest.
@Colorado_mom , I agree with others that some of those dresses overwhelm your small size. And I canāt remember if you wanted long or short. But I enjoyed finding a few that I think are really appropriate.

I hope you find something and not settle for a decent choice. Youāve worked hard to get in shape and lose weight and your dress choice should show that. The dress you own looks great on you both with and without the shapewear. The dresses youāve shown us so far make you look much heavier. Of those youāve purchased I like the halter one on you the best. The dresses are all pretty but as others have mentioned I think youād do better with something more fitted with less skirt.
Beautiful dresses, especially the one in the first link!
I love Anthropologie but they can drive me crazy. Plus I never know what size Iāll need.
Iāve been getting Instagram ads for this brand. If I had somewhere to go and would spend $$ Iād love to try this brand.
