I agree! Some excellent finds here!
I like #3 - probably because #1 has too much yellow for me. I do love the style of #1. You and I are halter fan girls!

Halter girls indeed!
I think number 1 in the links would be a great shape. I think #3 the skirt has a lot of fabric.
The Ralph Lauren is pretty and while the skirt is full itās more fitted through the hips.
After looking at so many floral dress links, I figured out what bothers me. Many dresses are just too busy of a design - like the designer threw an entire flower bed across the dress, including petals, leaves, stems, etc. I prefer a more stylized or muted pattern that concentrates on the bloom without a zillion colors to deal with. Some designers are better at this than others.
I love this design although I have no use for the dress. One more price drop and I may not be able to resist.
Agree! Also, floral fabric and abundant ruffles donāt go well together.

I love this print but not the price.
First of all I think people are truly being so helpful! And itās really fun to shop for something that as fun as a special occasion dress.
But @Colorado_mom has some very specific things she wants. And needs. And sheās asked, very nicely, I might add, that she is wanting to look and try things on in the store.
As a similar small (short) person, so many dresses donāt come in a petite size. Even if I were to get things tailored, when they arenāt a petite, it isnāt as easy as hemming. Itās the shoulders and the waistline. Itās the print over whelming the dress. Itās a lot of things. I didnāt look at all the links so I wasnāt sure if they came in a petite size.
Also for me, I have weird tan lines. So I am sensitive myself to backs of dresses that are lower. A square neck and square back is just not attractive on me. So even though people could recommend a dress for me, I am picky. Very picky. About strange things.
So as we navigate this thread, I want to ask people to be aware that something you like. Or you would wear, wonāt necessarily appeal to the person looking. And that it is overwhelming sometimes. So many choices out there.
My .02 about this.
I thought about floral initially as MOG but ended up using the floral, flowy dress I bought online for the rehearsal dinner and welcome party instead of the wedding. Just too busy and just didnāt seem like a MOG dress at the end of the day. I ended up for the wedding day in a solid color, more tailored look , as did the brideās stepmom .
But, I do think florals could/would work for some, maybe a little muted, good fabric. The one thing I do think may be best to avoid is for MOG or MOB to look like just another guest.
Okay, sorry.
Donāt be sorry! Some lurkers might look at the links and say, āWow, I like that!ā
Iām seriously considering buying the AP dress in first link but it is not available in 6. Not for weddings, just to go wine tasting or something like that.
Iām not looking to buy a dress at all, but I love seeing the many options suggested. Itās just fun.
You probably could find it someplace else. And it is gorgeous. Good luck!
Also, I consider links examples, not necessarily recommendations for a particular dress to buy. I know @Colorado_mom wants to shop/try-on in person, but online pictures from any source might help her more clearly visualize the type of dress she wants and prevent a salesperson from presenting wasted try-ons.
It really is a shame that there are few petite dress choices! It isnāt just the height and hem length, it is also shorter torso length that affects the fit.
Iām another who appreciate all the links. If not helpful for the particular poster they might help someone else. Or people who like me love looking at dresses even though Iāve no where to wear them. Lol
Another thing Iāve found helpful when I really need clothes is to ask or or two of my friends who are experts at finding what looks good on others. I often shop alone and I find I gravitate to the same shape, color and fabrics. When I go with these two friends they will suggest and bring things into the dressing room. One of them in particular would tell,e I needed a smaller size as Iām known to like things loose.
An appointment with a stylist at Nordstrom is also free and can be helpful.
Rightā¦ and even if willing to do hem tailoring, some Regular sized dresses (especially long ones) are just not easily shortened.
I was disappointed yesterday that Dillards no longer stocks much Petite in store, and I didnāt notice any Alex Evenings (loved my MOB AE petite jacket-dress selected at Dillards in 2016, back when they had salespeople to help).
Good news: Nordstrom website gives indication of particular store stock by style/size (āpick up today / tomorrowā)ā¦. including some Eliza J styles in my size range. Hopefully weāll get there this week. And maybe Iāll get lucky and have salesperson help available;)
Iāve appreciated all of the above links for my purposes and also the smile it gives thinking that there could be others also enjoying the various styles. THANKS!
I got my MOB dress at Lord and Taylor in NYC before they closed down. The dress was two sizes too big. Their tailor came in and measured me, and said she could make it right. Shockingly it was $26 to get this done. When the dress arrived at my house, it was like it had been custom made for me. It was amazing.
Now I know my alterations were a bargain because I was getting them done through L and T alterationsā¦but reallyā¦I was very impressed. They had to basically remake the whole dress.
I like #1 and love #4 in particular for Colorado mom. Subdued print, and length. Fit and flare style.
No way. The MOB or MOG will have the BIGGEST grin and the MOST tears - that is how she will stand out!!!
Seriously though, people have to do what they are comfortable with - looks wise, price wise, skin showing wise, etc. We can help but we also do so with sometimes limited info on what dress āconditionsā might be!
Both Macyās and Dillardās seem to have (at least online) petite size jacket dresses if you still like that style (you said thatās what you wore as MOB a few years ago).
