Then put me in the IRL friend camp. Send the sweater back, you don’t need. And I’m telling you GF, ditch the black hose. You are sort of ruining the look I think you are after. FWIW, I’m not a fan of “wear what you like” comments, which I find totally unhelpful.
I hate to say this…but I have never found that nylons provided any significant warmth when the weather got chilly.
I think you could go either way with the sticking color…your choice.
Re: the jacket…I think I would like it better if it didn’t have pockets. It just looks like it belongs with a pair of slacks or jeans…not over a beautiful dress. My opinion.
This. It looks (at least in this photo) like as if it husband’s coat that came to the rescue when the weather got cold. IMO, it makes the outfit look like a business casual outfit not a party attire. I really like the cardigan.
My son’s wedding in Chicago went off without a hitch this past Saturday! The weather was perfect, the venue was beautiful and everyone was so happy. Here’s a picture of my husband and me walking in and, as a bonus, the newlyweds walking out. We all had such a wonderful time, it’s been hard to come back to our normal, humdrum life, especially after all the anticipation leading up to the day!
Thank you! My dress was really comfortable–it’s jersey knit on top and then has a jersey knit lining under the lace skirt, so there was never any itchiness. The only slight downside is that the skirt was easy to snag, but the few snags it had weren’t very visible. As it cooled off in the evening I put on a silvery-grey shawl to keep warm, especially after the wind picked up around 10 pm. Like the wedding earlier in the evening, the reception was outdoors, but under a huge tent.
Stunning, @Mom2jl! How wonderful everything went off without a hitch…so often there’s a little hitch here or there (my brother fainted in the middle of my ceremony!). Love your shoes with the dress, the bride looks gorgeous along with her flowers!
@deb922, I agree with those who say that the nylons are a bit dated. Having said that, they do go well with the outfit in the event you just really prefer to wear them. Given a choice, I’d not though. And I think the jacket is very nice but it is just a bit oversized for the dress. Did you mention you might have a shorter/more fitted one?
@patsmom, if you’re still taking votes, the first shoes linked are perfect for your outfit. And that two piece is lovely. Does it have a camisole underneath?
Thanks, @collage1! It’s actually a jumpsuit, so it’s all one piece - the cape is attached. It’s very comfortable and the fabric is really soft. I ordered the navy shoes and they look just perfect with it.
It ended up that the weather in Michigan was picture perfect and warmer.
No nylons. Weren’t needed. Since I already owned the blazer I brought it but only wore it when we dined outside. All the pictures were no jacket and the cocktail hour was warm!
My husband was confused. He thought I borrowed someone’s jacket later in the evening . No I brought this jacket from home.
I got lots of compliments. Even the young fashionable ones said they loved my dress
The young women at the wedding, midi and maxi dresses were popular. Short dresses, I only saw a couple. Dancing, they changed into very clunky sneakers. White clunky sneakers. Visible socks.
Yay! I’m so glad the weather cooperated. I’m sure you looked lovely! I hope you had a great time
Okay, I’m going to open a can of worms and get flamed here, I am certain. I don’t know anything about clothing, “rules,” in Michigan (if they exist there), but here in the South, the fashion rule I was always taught was you wear velvet only between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day. So, I am surprised there was velvet being worn in September.
Interesting, but smart IMO, to change shoes for dancing. I’ll take white clunky sneakers over women dancing in their bare feet (I HATE it when women kick off their shoes to dance) any day!
