I think it would be fun to start a thread for MUN because I love that club a lot. But i do have a few questions though that I always wondered about:
-Are there any conferences during the months of May and June cuz it stinks that after April, there is nothing left to do
-How do you deal with those jerk delegates that always shut you down, steal your spotlight, and/or really push your buttons?
- Do I seriously have to become one of those jerk delegates to be Best Delegate because it always seem like those types of people end up getting either Best or Outstanding Delegate while I want to lead in such a way that I'm assertive about my opinions while letting everyone be heard and I'm the one everyone forms a circle around.

Are you going to the Harvard MUN Conference?

I’m so excited for HMUN!

Flower, about that second to last point you mentioned - dealing with those sort of delegates becomes an acquired skill. I’ve found that by letting the delegate who wants to steal the spotlight keep on rambling for a bit, only to cut them off by asking a question, has been effective. They’ll answer, then I’ll add my two cents and turn to another delegate in the group to ask them their opinion. And so forth. Basically, by assuming the role of the conversation moderator you’ll be able to voice your opinions and gain the respect of your peers. It’s all about the distribution of power when dealing with those sort of delegates.

Also, while I have seen delegates like the ones you mentioned win awards, this isn’t always the case. The chair isn’t stupid - they can typically differentiate between a delegate who is steamrolling over people to get awards and a delegate who is focused on collaborating. They prefer the latter.

Finally a MUN thread! I agree with spanishcaravan on the jerk delegate thing.
Has anyone ever been on a historical committee?

Just want to add my opinion here …
After 4 MUNs, I have realized that it’s not for me. Too structured and formal imo.

I am superpsyched for HMUN. This is my second MUN conference and first time on a special committee. So nervous! What committees and countries are you guys?

@ collegeluva i wish i could but MUN is a joke at our school so we probably wont get enough to go =(
@spanishcaravan good advice! I’ll definitely try it at the next conference
But do you guys think is the hardest of the committees in general because I have also noticed that historical council is quite difficult as well.

@collegeluva - I’m representing Brazil in SOCHUM. I wasn’t that happy about getting a GA (especially since it’s a double…) but the topics are interesting and I’m really looking forward to committee. Ahh you’re lucky to be in a specialized! That’s going to be really exciting.

@Tizil - I might be sort of weird in the sense that I enjoy the formal debate and structure. I think it offers a unique format for high school students to talk about relevant global matters.

Does anyone else find it hilarious seeing kids you are in committee with get completely and utterly freaky at the delegate dance?

@ spanishcaravan: OMG YES!! It was really funny because at the convention last year there was this guy who was the delegate for the USA who was really formal and driven, etc. basically the perfect delegate. But then I see him at the dance and he’s like grinding and really boisterous and I’m just like, “Well hello there. God bless America…”

Btw, I’m Marcus Caelius Rufus on Concilium Ultimum

Is there anyone going to DUMUNC?
Also @flower161, at your third question: yes, absolutely. There were these guys in one of my committees at a conference last year that would not shut up and blamed problems on everyone else, while disregarding other people’s opinions. They got Best and Outstanding. :/

Anyone doing JHUMUNC?
