Cornell I've heard has a really good party scene. But Penn likes to call itself "The Social Ivy" and Dartmouth is raging alcoholic school. How does the social scene at Cornell compare to the rest of the Ivies?

The social scene at Cornell is great. People are nice and approachable, and theres always something to do. Also, youre pretty much guaranteed to find your niche, as theres such a diverse group of people there. Right now, Fridays and Saturdays are pretty much dominated by the hockey games, and then there are parties afterwards, but thats not all there is to do.

I love the social scene at Cornell. I mean, its not gonna compare to some state schools of course, but that's comparing apples and oranges. When you say the social scene, you of course mean the party scene, and Cornell does not disappoint. On thursdays, fridays, and saturdays, many a party can be found starting at about 10 PM and lasting late into the night. And there is great diversity within the party scene as well. Whether you are a collar-popping rich boy from New Jersey or a member of the underground indie rock scene, you can usually find a place where you fit in and feel at home. I haven't experienced the social scenes at any of the other ivies, but I can't imagine them being any better. And as far as alcoholism goes, I don't think Darthmouth has anything on us :).

apparently, students learn to drink faster than they learn to drink coffee at Cornell.

Yeah. Most kids don't make it through the first weekend of orientation sober.

You know, you dont have to drink, and no one will make you either, nor will they care if you dont. I didnt have anything until about a month in.

I really dont understand people who dont drink. I dont make fun of them or anything but really alcohol is great as long as you know how to handle yourself. Unlike other drugs, it has comparatively few bad effects as long as youre not an alcoholic and destroy your liver or get alcohol poisoning. The most fun nights in high school have involved alcohol usually at parties. Of course drunk driving is a problem but you wont even have to deal with that in college. In addition many very successful people drank like tanks in college so youre in good company.

And I dont understand people who think they need to drink to have fun. I drink somewhat. I'm just not a big fan of it. But I still go to the parties and have fun.

Actually, alcohol's effects are worse than many other drugs...Don't get me wrong, I'm still an avid drinker :). Personally, I don't understand how one could have fun watching everyone else drink and act like shameless arseholes, but whatever floats yer boat. It's respectable that you can party, have fun and be sober. What's the deal with Thursday, Friday + Saturday being party days, are there none the other four days of the week?
