i somehow think it’s the ECs, for that can distinguish the top applicants. anyone else?

<p>Essays. Colleges are stressing writing, writing, writing. Most I see coming through here EC's are done by thousands upon thousands of other applicants (student council, tennis, math competitions): this doesn't give the admissions council as much insight into you as a unique student as does an original written work of yours--a concrete piece of your mind, if you will.</p>
<p>Your H.S. transcript are your grades through out H.S. Princeton does not look at your freshman grades. You would probably be recalculated for soph, Jr and senior grades.</p>
<p>Rank; If your school ranks, it is where you place in relation to others in the senior class. are you the # 1 student (valadictorian)? Are you in the top 10% of the class? this can and does fluxuate depending on whether or not the school weighs grades.</p>
<p>Your guidance counselor will turn in a school profile which will explain how things are done at your school. If you have not done so yet, I would recommend going to see your counselor so that you can get a better undestanding of how the school presents it self to colleges perhaps even see a copy of the school profile. The profile will explain if the school uses a GPA or evalauates on a 100 point scale</p>
<p>They understand that some schools do not rank. If fyou look further you will see that only 35% provided a ranking.</p>
<p>If your school does rank, then it is most important after grades/ transcript </p>
<p>Some SAT scores example spanish and Math ,Writing may be used for placement purposes.</p>
<p>For Example: My D goes to Dartmouth, at Dartmouth is you got over a 770 on the verbal and a 5 on either the Ap language or Literature exams, you were exempted from freshman writing.</p>
<p>If you took a foreign language (lets say spanish) and took an SAT II in Spanish, if you had to continue with a language at dependening on your score on the SAT II they would determine if you should be placed in spanish 1, 3, 3 etc or if you have met the requirement.</p>

<p>hey! yeah! that was VERY helpful! my school does not rank. my counselor said she put me down as an estimate for top 2% out of class of 400. is that good enough? she said she put down 75% go to four year college. but i am from canada. so it is a bit different. arg. hope that wont hurt my chances.. as for courses, i took the most rigorous ones my school has. more ap and honors class than anyone else.</p>
