Our school does not rank and I often see people posting here that they can't say anything about class rank because their school does not rank. But at an assembly last our college counselor (who used to be a college admissions officer until recently) said that about 90 percent of the schools that don't rank give out the following information 1) Highest GPA in class, 2) GPA that would put a student in the top 10, top 25 and top 50th percentile. He said he would see top 1 percent GPA's that ranged from 4.0 to 3.8 at equally rigorous high schools and that students should take a look at those numbers so they understood where the GPA really put them. Most people were not aware our school disclosed that information!

It is true that most schools that do not rank do in fact provide colleges ranges for levels of GPA as you note. Another thing that most do not realize is that majority of high schools put all your SAT/ACT test scores on your transcript and thus exercising score choice when sending through College Board does not result in preventing college of learning the score. Many incorrectly believe their high school does not put test scores on transcript because the transcript they receive at the end of a semester does not show them. However, the complete transcript that goes to colleges does.

I do know ours does not submit the ACT scores. But it doesn’t matter for me. Submitting the only one I took.
