The Most Mathematically-Intensive Career?

I'm not asking for the mathematically-intensive major (since that would probably mathematics) but for a career, a job, something.

Likewise, let's ignore teaching and Pure Math Research. I'm thinking more along the lines of applied math, though this is why I came here to ask.

either an actuary or an accountant

I assume you know the standard answers: there are statistical careers (actuaries, economists, etc), careers in mathematical modelling (computational engineering, computer animators, etc), jobs that revolve around data security (one of my math professors did cryptology for the NSA before she decided to teach)…

Accountants add, subtract, multiply, and divide. That is the extent of the necessary math skills to be an accountant.

Something to do with Engineering or Physics I presume.

depends what sort of mathematics.

theoretical or applied? arithmetic or something more complicated?

If you read it properly, you’d see he clearly said ‘applied math.’

Maybe you could look at what quants and other mathematical/computational finance folks do. I hear it’s pretty tough.
