The Myth of a "boring UCSD."

I'm tired of hearing this misconception that UCSD is socially dead and boring. I remember hearing it when I was on these CC forums when I was just an admit, and still hear it, even from you incoming freshman who have probably visited the campus once.

Well, listen up. It is absolutely up to YOU to decide whether you will make your UCSD experience "boring" or not. If you come here and sit in your room, waiting for a party of people to burst into your room and start rocking out, then you're being unrealistic (unless you have very interesting roommates).

I have had an absolute blast at UCSD this first year. I'm doing something every weekend, whether it's a fraternity event, an organization's bonfire, a dance, a day in downtown, a day at the beach...there's loads of things to do. Weekdays are no exception, there are so many student organizations planning a wide variety of events around campus.

Whether you're a partier who enjoys a drink and some good music, or a gamer or RPG fan who wants to connect with others, THERE IS SOMETHING HERE FOR EVERYONE.

Get involved! Meet new people, talk to them, go to events even if you think they might be lame (I've done this, and am always glad I went). Get out of your room!

The quality of your social life is your decision, do what you gotta do!

See you in the Fall!

so you can get totally blasted at ucsd? thats the definition of fun 4 me hehe

Perfectly said.

Here's some more insight.

that link makes it seem worse o_O

ya .

Not really, that link shows how people MADE their bad experiences at UCSD.

Remember, the party won't come to you usually, you have to go to your party.

Or make your own party =D.

and remember, the people who have strong opinions would only post.

its biased, so dont base your results from what you read here

The fact that - as I'm posting this, this thread has only 8 comments and over 300 views - might be telling.

I'm not biased.

I can tell you that life at UCSD can get very, very boring for some...those who choose not to get involved, which is quite a few people at UCSD. People who aren't involved in stuff are stuck in the library day in an day out, or in their room doing nothing.

All I am saying is that if you choose not to venture out of your bubble, you won't have a very fulfilling social life. How is that a biased opinion? I'd say that's in informed opinion if anything, I'm saying this from experience and observation from my time at UCSD.

I think the reason there are so few comments is because very few people who are current students post on here, and one who is a student, 16399, agreed with me. Most who view this are incoming students, and have yet to say whether they agree or disagree with me.

So what's a typical schedule for you?

Let's see, Yesterday I went to classes in the afternoon, had a Queer People of Color meeting at 8, then went to a dance until midnight. Tonight I'm relaxing and probably just going to watch a movie, and Saturday I have a dinner/murder mystery with my Fraternity, which should be fun.

Midterms/finals are in sight, so Sunday I'll probably study with some friends, and since there's no school on Monday, I'll probably go clubbing that night. =D

not saying that your biased

just saying how people cant judge if UCSD is a boring school from reading forums. its not like 100% of the student body uses cc. everyone has their own opinion and point of view

True, thanks for clarifying.

or u could just wait for sungod

i was at ralphs that day, all the damn liquor was near gone

...what a great weekend that was.

I was upset that Sungod was RIGHT before midterms... I had to pepper my activities that day with chem homework (and who doesn't want to write about complex synthesis after taking a few shots?)

Well, I guess UCSD itself is kinda boring, but theres definitely a lot to do. Its just that you can't just walk outside and expect that a whole bunch of stuff to do will pop out at you... You need to find it yourself as someone has already said.

And if you can't find anything to do, you could always go to Tijiuana...
