Ok gang, my excuse is I’m from Seattle. You native Californians!! Happy Friday to everyone!! Sprinkling acceptance pixie dust virtually on all of you!!
Never understood why UC Berkeley goes by Cal!!!
That one is easy- They were the original University of California
Neither has “Polytechnic” in its name.
The best known private schools on these forums with “Polytechnic” in their names are Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. There was also the former Polytechnic University that is now NYU’s engineering division.
The best known non-California public university on these forums with “Polytechnic” in its name is Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, but most people do not refer to it by that name. Purdue University has a “Purdue Polytechnic” division that is somewhat known.
SLO and CPP used to be the northern and southern campuses of the same school. They officially separated in 1966. Cal Poly Pomona History
The Cal State schools were originally considered colleges and not universities. At the time, colleges did not offer graduate degrees. The change in 1972 was that 14 of the 19 colleges met the criteria to be designated as universities. You can see the transformation of names of the different schools through the years here: CSU History
The one that throws me off is that Haward is now CSU East Bay.
