I don't think Berkeley is going to be that high, or Penn.

Just wait four more days...jesus.

Yeah -- I havent seen them so I have no idea if what is posted is true. So far this is just a rumor. Tulane dropping so much makes me a little skeptical but we will see.

I'll believe what I see on the usnews website when I wake up on the 18th.

"when I wake up on the 18th."

-Make sure to brush your teeth first

Hopefully I wont have work.

I'm pretty sure Berkeley & UVa are tied

it's about time wesleyan dropped a few spots. now to account for middlebury's overratedness...

The fact that Tulane dropped is not impossible. At around rank 50 or so, the index scores differ very little, so 1 or 2 points on the index could mean a large fluxuation.

Schools are all where supposed to be...almost exacty, besides Penn and WashU

^Yeah but personally the only reason I care about these rankings is because I want to annoy my friend whose in UPenn whose been acting all snobbish all year, if its gone up again than I got nothing.

What do they have in common? Disproportionally large amount of research money for medicine. I don't think the US News separates it from those for academic research. For example, if you look at WashU website under something like Facts-->"How WashU compares with other institution", WashU looks pretty good simply because of the inclusion of $$$ for medical research. http://facts.wustl.edu/comparison.htm There's no way WashU would be anywhere close to Stanford without such inclusion. In fact, I bet if medical research isn't included, WashU would have been way down on the list, given the fact their engineering/arts and sciences..etc aren't very well-ranked. I think a lot of schools report just the total research expenditure and that becomes part of what's used to calculate "financial resource" rank. Schools with top med schools are gonna benefit more than others. Don't underestimate the impact of such advantage because with schools being so close in all other categories, such separation in this category can be huge on the overall ranking. I think this plays a pretty big role on UPenn and WashU's rank.

And what that website says is that Johns hopkins has 3 times the amount of research expenditure, yet it ranks below WashU. So how do you explain that?

Chicago deserves to be higher

Chicago always deserves to be higher. If it didn't, it wouldn't be Chicago.

People go to Chicago for the same reason they eat at Denny's-to be ignored.

I thought people went to Chicago to get an education.

These rankings are a travesty.

when will UCLA take the spot of #1 public!? what would it take to accomplish this?

Chicago gets screwed over.. again.
