Hey guys. I recent ly received a notice from the Castilian. They said that they would have a new elevator next year and tanning beds. I've looked at the rates (not too bad). And they said that there will be new improvements coming through the year. So do you guys think I should re consider it?? (Yes, I know there was a forum last year about how bad the Castilian was.) Any opinions?
Thanks

Is this a dorm? They have tanning beds?! Way to foster a healthy environment, UT-Austin.

Yep it is (Or they claim they will have tanning beds.)

ZOMG new elevators that makes the wretched environment filled with one less thing that is bad!! Not to mention, they only fix it after the whole entire campus knows about the problem, that really shows how much they care; They only fix it after everyone knows that there is a problem. I have heard some horror stories so I can't claim that I know exactly what is going on first hand, but there is a reason why they have low rates.. they HAVE to have low rates.

This is a private dorm, not an on-campus dorm, Halie. UT can't do a thing about them.

From my experience, the Castilian is a pretty bad dorm, unless you are on one particular floor, which is only cool because of the people on it this year.

Honestly, I think staying on campus, or at Dobie or Towers is a better choice.

Ok Guys I see.

Brrrr ... Time to pay up - Opinion

MTV chose this place recently for their Real World Auditions - that has to tell you something right there. Also, the UT football camp chooses to hold their Summer Camps at The Castilian. They could choose any place they wanted to on or off campus but they select the Castilian. Really when you see this place, its amazing. I live there now and this place is 1) the cleanest dorm on campus 2) the best food on campus 3) the best location -- right smack in the middle (but across the street from campus).
You should know that there are a couple of bad posts about the Castilian on this board and others but go check this place out for yourself. You wont' find a nicer staff anywhere and the maintenance of the place is top notch. The elevators are great. A couple years ago they had a heating issue that was fixed with all new equipment from what I hear - it just won't happen again -- what are the chances. Visit Dobie and its like a prison. Towers is like a dump. On campus is a guess -- sometimes ok and sometimes not. I would live here again in a second.
