I am considering two different paths to major in... photography and music. I know that the new school have schools that offer these majors and really like the vibe. could anyone share their experience or knowledge of either a career involving these majors or going to the new schools.

Music is a broad spectrum. The New School’s offering is in jazz and contemporary music, a highly competitive audition based admission. There are folks in [Music Major - College Confidential](Music Major - College Confidential Forums) with visits, audition experience, acceptances, and a few that are/will matriculate. You might want to redirect your question there.

Mannes School of Music, a classical conservatory, is also part of The New School. It also has highly competive admissions.

i am more interested in the music program at eugene lang because it seems to have a more modern take in music, and experiments with songwriting and production. could you tell me anything about eugene lang?

Try posting a thread with Eugene Lang in the title.

I don’t go to the New School nor do I know anyone personally who goes there - BUT I have heard (through this community and other college discovery communities/programs) that they give awful financial aid and that they don’t have great on-campus housing after the first year. New York is very expensive and so is the New School, and there are probably better music programs with more support.
