The New Standard of Perfection = 2400 on New SAT

I've been thinking, that since there are so many 1600s/1550s now, in order to break the ties, the top schools are going to be really looking for 2400s (or real close). They say they won't, but I think the colleges will do that in reality. Next year is do or die for my situation. Will 2400 be the decider, like 1600 is now?

Well yeah, the colleges will look for near perfect scores. 2250+ I would guess which is close to a 1500 (50 wrong on each section) but I don't think it will change much from how they look these days. High SATs and Great ECs etc.

I really dont think much will change since the new sat is basically verbal+math+SAT II writing which they require anyway. Of course a 2400 would really help.

2400 will never be the same as a 1600. They don't even sound close: "I got a two thousand four hundred" sounds weird... but "I got a sixteen hundred" is just grand! Good thing, though, is that if you write the new SAT, your score will almost always be higher than your 'brother who got into Harvard' or your 'mom who went to an Ivy' ;)

nobody would say two thousand four hundred, they would say twenty-four hundred
just like nobody says one thousand six hundred, they say sixteen hundred...

your point?

I know what you mean. They say that since it is the first year the test has been administered, the (current) juniors won't be judged as much on it. There are going to be those kids that you are competing with that have 2300-2400 though, so there's no denying that it will be important. After all, how much different from the old one is it? Not that much. Basically a little more math and the SAT II Writing. All they have to do is break down the score and compare it to past years. I don't think it will be treated as so much a composite score like the old SAT, but section-by-section.

Is anyone taking it March 12th? If you are, are you planning to study or just take it? I am trying to study, I bought Kaplan's book, but I just don't have enough time to memorize the whole list of vocabulary in the back. Oh well, you can always re-take it.

"your point?"

his point is that you're wrong.

"I bought Kaplan's book, but I just don't have enough time to memorize the whole list of vocabulary in the back."

Get the New Real Sats but out by College Board. Kaplan sucks.

The thing is that the "New SAT" isn't really that new. It'll just be considered as the Old SAT + SAT II Writing is now.

the SAT is changing a lot. there are no more analogies (are being replaced with reading). and the math covers a lot more than before.

ya gianievve that was the most invalid point ive ever heard.. lmao im actually laughing

Correct. Your score is not better depending on how it is spoken. LOL

the writing section seemed to help my psat score
i'm hoping to get atleast a 2200 on my SAT which is probably the equivalent to a 1500 on the past SATs
btw, what do you guys think about the new writing section????
i'm generally a very good writer but i'm confused on the grading because it is so weird and i don't know how they are going to factor that into your writing score

well u get a score between 1-6 they usually grade it in a minute and no longer. Another person grades it and they add em together then multiply by two. so the most you could get is a 24. They then add that into your overall writing score which includes grammar.

so the essay is only worth 24 points out of 800????
that definately does not make any sense
stupid collegeboard

Guys, the math isn't going to be a lot harder. If anything it will be easier by testing basic knowledge instead of dumb questions designed to trip you up. "If Tom didn't not go down to the store and not buy no blue paint but yellow how many squid did he buy at 50% off the 80% stock price?" That changes to "What is the union of the sets [1,3,6,7,8] and [3,5,6,8,9]"

I will much prefer the new math. Knowing function notation isn't that much of a burden.

"so the essay is only worth 24 points out of 800????"

lol more like 24 out of 80 or 240 out of 800 depends on how you look at it

The essay will be "blended" with the writing multple ch according to a chart that is in the NEW Sat book. It looks like if you get an 800/80 on the mc, and a lousy writing score on the essay, it might bring you dowm to a low-mid 720-750.

In response to the second half of your post (alexmcavoy@gmail.com), I'm taking the SATs March 12th. I've bought several books that I planned on studying from, but I never seem to have the time to do so. What I've done so far to practice for the SATs on March 12th was take 3 practice SATs; I'm planning on taking more. After taking each one of my practice tests, I look for my weaknesses, and do the usual routine of checking to see whether my mistakes were purely mistakes or made because I didn't know the material. If the mistakes are because I don't know the material, then I teach myself the things I don't know. I also look up any word I may not know when I'm reading (since I read often).
