The no-news-is-good-news NMF rejection/acceptance/worry thread, Class of 2017

NO letter today. We are getting close.

University of Kentucky. Accepted to newly juiced-up Honors and looking to go for free.

OU (accepted and applying to honors)
ASU (accepted and accepted to honors)

He is waiting to hear from others and has been accepted to others, but these two are the highest n the radar and give NMF scholarships. However, I still need to confirm that ASU give full tuition to NMF. We know that OU has a stellar package.

Asu with Barrett! I’m attending assuming i get national merit, it covers tuition and all required fees

Boston U – $20K/yr for NMF
The other schools applied to do not offer any NMF $.

Northeastern (accepted with honors) and USC (RD), but the latter’s timeline for admission/FA is making it hard to plan, therefore visualize. So impressed with Northeastern!

Oh and hopefully the NMF at NEU is still 30k.

Son applied and accepted to LSU Honors program and Vanderbilt. Vandy was an ED1 app so he passed on LSU and is admitted to Vandy. Excellent financial aid package but awaiting NMSC decisions and merit scholarship info as well. Go Dores!

No letter today. On the other hand, I got a letter from UT Dallas about their scholarship for finalists (tuition and cash stipend)

Could that be a sign, @curiouscat319 ?

@MatzoBall haha I don’t think so, i forgot to mention it said “if selected as a national merit finalist” in big letters.

D got the UTDallas mailing as well today, and the letter opened with "Congratulations on being named a National Merit Semifinalist . . . " Was kinda hoping they knew something before she did . . . but no.

@binky17 I was admitted to northeastern honors as well but even with the 30k national merit it is just too expensive for my family :frowning:

No letter in Houston today.

@blountwil2 ugh, it is very, very expensive. The EFC is just laughable. Btw, it’s not me, but my son. Northeastern is looking like a bargain after his Michigan package, though. Have you tried to negotiate FA?

I’m sorry, @blountwil2. That stinks.

Various scholarships offered already, but waiting on the “big” ones.

ACT 33— no test prep
SAT New 1480— no test prep
UW GPA 3.76
Rank 82/630… hard to rank. A single B moves you ten spots in the ranking.
13 AP Courses, 5 already scored at 4’s and 5’s
7 years dual language study German and Spanish
Lots of Maths and Science
Lots of Community Service all around the city
Rugby
Nothing lower than a B and 33 high school course credits all AP and Pre AP when possible, otherwise GT/Honors.

O.U. gets best award for friendly and sincere recruitment efforts from day one. Going to scholar’s weekend on Feb 19th. They pay the hotel… they offered it. Would feel almost guilty not going to O.U. they made such an incredible effort to be helpful and welcoming. Consistently positive experience from day one. Texas Tech wins second place, and also did a great job presenting themselves. Might be better engineering at O.U. and Lubbock is hard to imagine at the moment for 4 years or more. but…?

UT Austin worst application experience. F for their FU approach. U Chicago? … well, it’s U Chicago. But just making the final round at U.C. was a pretty cool thing regardless. University of Houston… ZERO score for their application interface, lack of organization of any kind, complete chaos. But… good honors college, good engineering.

Right now the only temptation NOT to pick O.U. would be to receive the Mcdermott Scholarship from UT Dallas. Amazing scholarship in every way.

No letter from National Merit yet. Fingers crossed for good news.

^Have heard just the best things about OU.

@lookin for My dd is a NMF at OU and loving it! My DS18 (a NM hopeful) has picked has already decided that UTD is his #1 choice. I don’t think you can go wrong with either school!

Thanks for the feedback. UTD will probably depend on the McDermott. Since it is a 3 day final interview there will be a lot of time to get to know the school up close, which will help decide. Although their NM’s and McDermotts and Terry scholars seem to be in a kind of bubble of their own there which doesn’t maybe say much about the rest of the school. Hard to know right now.
