The no-news-is-good-news NMF rejection/acceptance/worry thread, Class of 2017

Lost mail is actually quite rare. I’m right there with you. Hang in there @curiouscat319.

@curiouscat319 This has been stressful for you. So sorry.

@paveyourpath Here is a link to the 2014/15 annual report. State breakdowns are on page 23.

http://www.nationalmerit.org/s/1758/images/gid2/editor_documents/annual_report.pdf

@saillakeerie Thanks, I did see that page. It was said that there was a breakdown by state of finalists, which is what I inquired about, but that seems to have been in error.

No letter in Austin area today. My D had one semester C in an AP English class. Holding my breath until she (hopefully) gets confirmation from the school

No letter in Houston today.

No letter in Kentucky yesterday.

Today is a new day. I hope no one gets any letters today.

It’s 10 days until February the sixth
I hope all of you are still in the mix
Praying we get good news then
On the 7th we can start to worry again
About acceptances, scholarships and housing
Where would we be if we weren’t grousing?

Question…what colleges is everyone looking at pending NMF?

We are down to OU, Alabama and Rice right now. I know there are some really good schools out there however as a parent I want my S to stay within 400 miles. I don’t think Rice will give much merit money for my S because he is just average in that world. We applied for a reach that was WAY off and I did not like that feeling at all. Got deferred so we moved on. To be honest it was a relief for me…not so much for my S though.

UMN TC and USC.

uf and fsu

UT - Austin (accepted)
TAMU (accepted)
Rice (waiting)
USC (waiting)
Vandy (waiting)
Duke (waiting)
Wash U (waiting)
Emory (waiting)

UChicago (ED II - was deferred from EA so she is not too hopeful)
NU (RD)
CMU (RD)
UMTC - Carlson (accepted)
UW-Madison (accepted)

UChicago gives out about $4,000. NU about $1,800(? - can’t remember). UW-Madison most likely nothing. UMTC gives out the $10,000 Gold Award; in addition, D17 received a presidential scholarship and a small stipend for study abroad. CMU doesn’t give anything specifically to NMF’s.

TAMU gives $40k over 4 years. USC = 1/2 tuition. Don’t know about the others. UT-Austin = nothing I am aware of

University of Florida ( waiting ) full cost of attendance for in state NMF
Florida State ( accepted) full cost of attendance for in state NMF

other places DD applied don’t matter anymore because its down to those two

We are at

Texas Tech (accepted)
OU (accepted)
Alabama (accepted)
Rice (waiting)
Stanford (differed and moving on)

He has not been interested in applying anywhere else. I think UK has a great NMF scholarship however no interest from my S. I think it is to far away once he really started thinking about things.

@Tex151 I think you are correct about UT - Austin…nothing for NMF… that I can find at least. TAMU is a great school just to big for my S. We visited and he liked the people just way to large of a campus for him.

@floridamomof3 Are you sure UF gives out full ride for finalists? I’m not sure how the scholarship works, but I’ve heard finalists not getting full ride to uf, but the person who told me might be wrong. And could it be full tuition and not full ride? Thanks

@curiouscat319 The Benaquisto Scholarship is for all NMFs in Florida. It was formerly known as the Florida Incentive Scholarship & was established to keep high achieving students in state. http://www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org/SSFAD/factsheets/FIS.pdf ( The official link from the Florida Department of Education.) And yes, it applies to UF. There is a whole thread here on CC. Search Florida Incentive Scholarship. There are parents & students at UF & FSU posting who can answer your questions if you have any. And it is cost of attendance.
