the norm or rude?

So I emailed the college of my choice's administration today because I had a question about what classes I should take next year (im a junior and course selection is next week). I kindly asked what they recommended and if they could offer any additional insight and/or advice. Although they replied quickly, the answer I received was basically "i dont want to be bothered". They said that there was nothing they could say besides read the website (which I did and mentioned in the e-mail) and to take the most challenging classes. Well my question was about that!

Maybe this is how all colleges would respond? Is this normal or is it rude? maybe im just being overdramatic but the whole thing just really turned me off.

it's probably because it's not really a question to ask the college itself. its info that you should obtain from college counselors or maybe a college rep. that visits your school or something. they can't specify the course that you should take. i dunno. just doesn't seem right. so, i wouldn't worry about their response, because i don't think it's something they should have to answer for high school kids.

Also, what if they recommend classes, you take them and get rejected? They don't want to be responsible for that...

yeah its just annoying cause it was a foreign language question ... i had 2 years of latin and spanish this year and i just told them instead of taking spanish 2 id rather take honors business law but i dont want it to look less challenging ... i only resorted to asking them because everyone told me to take spanish 2 but im really not feeling that at all .. business law seems so much more informative

keep in mind though that most schools are releasing decsions very soon and they get hundreds of emails everyday from applicants who might be missing stuff. i'm sure they don't mean to be rude, but you aren't their top priority at the moment.

I really don't think colleges are going to help you increase your chances at thier school. Answering that question would be a sort of college counceling and no college is going to go out of its way to make admissions easier for anyone.

You should ask your guidance counselor about course selection, not colleges. They don't know you or your school and it's not their job to give specific advice...

thanks guys
