I thought it might be cool to have a thread devoted entirely to UC to UC transfers, because there doesn't seem to be enough information on how difficult this process is to succeed in.

So post your information, stats, where you're applying from, where you're applying to, etc.!

While it may seem like I have a pretty good GPA, I didn't decide to major in computer science until this quarter, so I'm going to be lacking on some prerequisites. I wonder if that will get me denied everywhere or not. Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze em all into next year but it's not too likely.

The main school I want to go to is Berkeley, but am I just dreaming? Is it even possible to transfer from UCR to Berkeley? Is it too high of a jump?

Here’s a specific question maybe someone can help me with:

If we’re transferring from another UC/four year, we’re supposed to include our reasons for transferring on the application (Berkeley says to do this). Do we do this in the personal statement? Just squeeze this in there randomly? Or is there a place where we can discuss our reasons?

I included my reason for transferring to Cal in my personal statement. I just briefly mentioned it in each of my essays…my personal statements weren’t focused on my reasons for transferring.

I’m a CC transfer but I know what you’re going through with Pre-Reqs (Comp Engineering major). I didn’t know I wanted to do engineering until after 1 year at CC so I just did GE (as instructed by counselors) until I knew what I wanted to do. So for my last 3 semesters (Spring 09, Fall 09, Spring 2010), I’ve taken EVERY pre-req that is offered and I’m eligible for, but I’m still going to only be able to get through 1 year of calc, classical mechanics and 2 programming classes. So I’ll have my fingers crossed haha.

Yeah UCeric, prereqs are really a ***** for engineering majors, especially going to community colleges. I feel like I actually have the upper hand here, since my local community college only offers like half of UCLA’s prerequisites.

Yeah, also since you’re on the quarter system you can work through classes faster, you can get through Calc 1,2 & 3 + Phys 1 & 2 in 1 year while I can only get calc 1 & 2 + Phys 1. Oh well, it’s just frustrating knowing with a normal BA major I could probably get in almost anywhere but since I’m interested in engineering there is a good chance I’ll be stuck at home another year :(.

Yeah it’s realistic that it will take 3 years. I’m sure the UC’s won’t hold it against you too hard though if your CC just doesn’t offer the classes you need.

Haven’t started, to be honest. I had one written specifically for Berkeley, but now I realize I can’t use that that one so I’ve gotta rewrite entirely.
