I want to major in veterinary medicine. But I always wanted to go to FSU for bachealor’s degree, and then UF would be my graduate school. But I’m not sure yet:/

Smile let me the first to tell you that your decision is made and you must go to U of F. Whether you study Veterinary Med or Animal Science or Biology or any other of the sciences? UF is the place for you. Not even up for debate.

If you would have said nursing, or business, or political science? then FSU would fit. But Vet sciences? Forget about it.

Class Rank-School doesnt rank but if I had to guess I would say definitely top quarter, possibly top 10 percent

ECs are pretty weak, During baseball season in my town I umpire the little league baseball games (past 2 years), also was a counselor in training for a summer camp for a year

Jobs- work over the summer at a screen-printing
business, past 3 years.

I live in CA. Can anybody tell me why I was rejected?

jettski - you were rejected because you are not a Florida resident. It is a total lie that the Florida universities do not discriminate on the basis of residency status - they do and are required to by Florida law.

Just like I would be discriminated against if I applied to a UC school because I am not a California resident.

General comments (how you feel, any advice for future applicants, etc): A lot of my friends with better scores did not get in and some of my friends with awful scores got in. I really think it has to do a lot with your essay and ECs. I was actually told by my friend whose mom’s good friend is part of the admission process at UF that two people read your essay and if they both like it, you are basically in. If one likes it and the other doesnt, they keep debating it. If they both do not like it, you are most likely not getting in. After the essay they look at your EC and then your scores. WRITE AN AWESOME ESSAY.
hope I was of help!

Essay (be honest): To be honest, it was not good at all. It was generic and super vague. All I wrote about was my academic success which is clearly visible on my transcripts even though that is exactly what colleges tell you not to write about. I guess it worked somehow.

General comments (how you feel, any advice for future applicants, etc): To be honest, I was extremely surprised to get in. I looked at past threads and UF seems brutal on OOS applicants. So when I saw I got in I was ecstatic. I guess there probably is a HUGE emphasis on test scores/gpa/rank and my EC were decent I guess.
