Ok you guys, I have been following this thread since 6:00 last night. I also applied to UF and have not received an answer yet. Here’s what is on my status:

As a prospective student receiving your AA degree or 60 credits in addition to your high school diploma, we will be reviewing your college GPA, and the completion of prerequisite courses for your major, along with other pertinent information for transfer admission. Your major is very important in the transfer review process. Please contact the Office of Admissions immediately if you need to add or change your major.

We appreciate your patience as we continue to evaluate your college-level coursework.

Sincerely,
Office of Admissions
University of Florida

I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA and received a 28 on the ACT. I’m receiving my AA from Santa Fe College, the feeder school for UF here in Gainesville. I’m taking 20 credit hours this semester in order to get my AA, so it’s not like I took a light load. I have international awards from horseback riding, which lead me to write a jam-up essay for my application. UF is my number one choice, and I was hoping that this morning I would have an answer. I have called the admissions office, but of course they were closed (beginning to think that’s why they give decisions on Friday).

Decision: Accepted

General comments (how you feel, any advice for future applicants, etc): It seems like their standards dropped for Floridians this year by hearing about some of my friends that got in. I’m 2/2 so far on acceptance, 4 more to go.

Thanks guys. I’m getting my AA but I do not have all the prerequisites for my major. I still need organic chemistry I and II and physics with calc 1 and 2. If I got over 45 credit hours, UF would simply make me retake anything over 45, so I decided to get my AA. They told me that I would first be considered as a freshman and then as a transfer. I really want to be a freshman. I have dual enrollment friends who have not taken as many hours as me and got in last night. Not to be cocky, but I have taken a much more rigorous academic path than they have and have more awards than them.

Yes, I am going to UF ASAP on Monday morning. I ride western reining horses :). I actually have won one World Champion title and two Reserve World Champion titles and a slew of other state and national titles. We hauled around the country a lot :). Do you ride? If so english or western?

BillyMc, there was no possible way for me to get all my prerequisites done. When I started in dual enrollment, I was in intermediate algebra and am now in calculus II. I need calculus III for physics two with calculus. So I don’t really understand how I could be accepted as a transfer unless they were to let me complete my degree in three years instead of two. I’m just hoping that on Monday morning I can get an answer. However, this isn’t the first time I have been a bit jerked around by UF, I just hope that this problem clears up with a positive outcome.

I believe you need all of your prereqs if you are a concurrent high school/ AA student. I got rejected two years ago because I applied for engineering and didn’t have all my physics and maths. I’m sorry and I hope I’m wrong. Good luck.

I am frustrated every year reading these boards for all the DE students who have not been made aware by their GC’s the ramifications of taking so many DE classes. I was so thankful that D took AP instead of DE as she came in w/ way over the 45 credit hours of AP UF would accept. If she’d taken that DE w/o knowing she could get clobbered with the whole AA/pre-req for major scenario … she would have been in the same fix all these students are. Instead, we counted 45 hours of Ap credit towards her gen eds and avoided most of those. But she came in under freshman admissions, eventhough she was classified a junior (by credit hour) at the end of her first year at UF. I feel for all the DE’s, who are now being considered transfer students.

zebes

I am fairly confused as to how they are changing some dual enrollment applicants to transfers but not others.

I am a dual enrollment student getting my AA. I was aware of the policies, and made sure I had every requirement for my degree and major (even without looking at UF’s page, just at my college’s). However, I was accepted regularly, with no mention of dual enrollment. UF is not my top choice, but does this mean that, if I did go, they wouldn’t take my credits? Or is that a separate process?

What up Landon! a FSU tattoo (Boooo)?
Anyways, ACCEPTED!!!

Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.5
Weighted Core (UF looks at this, and only this): 3.95
SAT (breakdown): 690 M, 700 CR, 690 W
ACT: 28
Rank: 95/700
Total number of academic classes: 20+
Total number of AP classes: 10
IB student (Yes/No): No
Senior year course load: AP Chemistry, AP Physics AB, AP Calculus AB, AP English Literature, AP US Government, Accounting

Extracurricular activities (position in parenthesis): DECA, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, Tennis, Dance
Job/Work experience: Babysitting, Camp Counselor
Volunteer/Community service (list your total overall hours, too): Hospice (100+), Habitat for Humanity (24), Tutoring (50)
Honors, awards, or recognitions: DECA State Champion,
Essay (be honest): Excellent. Did not mention UF once in my essay. Talked about completing Outward Bound, how much a struggle it was, and what I learned/achieved.

State or Country:
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Income Bracket (low, middle, or high): High
Hooks (URM, first generation college, legacy, etc.): None

General comments (how you feel, any advice for future applicants, etc): Despite what people tell you, it is not that difficult to get in. If you are smart, work hard (get at least a 4.1 core weighted in school), and get a 1300 on the SAT, you will get into UF. I was scared that I wouldn’t get in, but I was so wrong. A lot of not too brilliant people got into UF. Bottom line, if you deserve it, you will make it. Go GATORS!!!

By the way, I was ACCEPTED

My daughter was accepted for Spring 2012 but applied for fall 2011. what are the chances of her moving up, lots of people posting that they were accepted but wont attend. If possible how does she move up to fall???

it’s more likely she’ll move up to summer not fall.

Is Summer the next step up, I think we would rather have that than wait until spring. How do you know this???
