The Official AP Chemistry Discussion Thread

Yeah I’m probably skipping Monday to study.

How long does it take you guys to get through a chapter of PR (including doing the questions at the end + reading explanations)?

Does anyone know how much Ochem/nuclear chemistry is usually on it. I’m definitely going to practice reactions and acids and bases. For kinetics is it usually just finding the rate law based on experimental data given to us in a table, or do they test us on like the graphs of 1st/2nd order reactions. I’m going to get owned…

I’m pretty sure there’s pretty few? Only like 1-2 from each at max.

What kind of typical FRQ do they ask?

how much is needed for a 4?!??! god help me please

is it true for the free response reactions question, you can’t choose which ones you want to do anymore D: ?

I’m taking the Make-up Exam (Thursday, May 21st) due to AP Schedule conflict (Enviro and Chem are on the same day same time) Is it true that it’s harder??? I’m sooo scared.

This is true.

It being harder is NOT true. There is actually a pretty good chance that they’ll give you either the same exam with slight nuances or even a past example or combinations of such.

There is little or no way that they prepare multiple exams per year for those who miss it.

Did anyone take the 2004 MC test? I have some questions, and I’d like to discuss.

if I were to get like 10 points off MC but get only like 1/2 of the FRQ right. Would that count as a five?

I am really scared for the FRQ section

Um, half of all the FTQ?

If you do pull that off you could get a low 5 I think. (Both FTQ sections or just one…?)

This…is very unfortunate. D:

Okay if I’m getting around 42, 45 multiple choice, how much of FRQ (out of a total of 6 questions, right?) do I approx need to get right to get a 4, maybe a 5?

I know 5 may be out of reach here. But anyone wanna take a long shot? Like is it even possible to get a 5 with 45 multiple choice? Do I NEED to have the entire FRQ right?

Thanks.

argh just took calc bc today. that was easy. didn’t even study
but chem?! now this will be hard…
the test is so damn long!!!

:(

i didn’t start studying yet

My teacher’s new this year and hasn’t taught us effing anything. We all are screwed.

did anyone take the 2004 MC?

since calc AB is over, I am going to study AP Chem. In my opinion, AP Chem is easier than AB, but i haven’t taken a practice exam yet. I hope that by monday I will be finished studying AP Chem from PR.

I’m going to say that AP Chem is way harder than calculus. Partly because our school administration did crap job with the scheduling this year, but also because there aren’t that many topics in calculus. I’m expecting the curve for AP calc ab to be pretty low though.

Yeah, so I’m rather nervous about this exam… All the math stuff is really easy, and it all makes sense, and a lot of the concepts make plenty of sense too. But how do I make sure I know all or most of the conceptual parts that will be on the exam?

Like, I now know that Na+ burns with a yellow flame, but before I knew that, how was I supposed to know the flame colors of elements? In other words, I guess I’m trying to ask what all concepts need to be known.

Can anyone please answer my question about the frq? I’m desperate. And ^ you should check out the official collegeboard syllabus booklet. I think it has a breakdown of all the concepts you need to know alongwith percents and a couple of practice questions too.
