The Official Chances Thread!

I have no idea how much the award helps but looking at everything else, low SAT scores and below-average GPA. First-gen college student will help. I'd guess 20-30% chance.

Can someone please do OOS chances? I want to see them!

@vicissitudes:
Would being a second-gen Berkeley student bolster or lower my chances? :P

I believe it does absolutely nothing. :)

Excellent :D.

Hi:)

UC GPA: 4.3
Unweighted GPA(10-12):3.97

Which college are you applying to?
Thinking about Engineering School. Either Electrical or Chemical.

List a few of your most important ECs
I went to three different high schools (1 for each school year..)
so I don't have any ECs that I did for more than one year.Consequently, no significant leadership positions.

for 9th grade I have a lot of awards and honors but it's from a different country so I don't know if anyone would even know what those are.

10th grade: Mock Trial, Translation Internship
still abroad

11th grade: CSF, Work at John Hancock Financial Network, tutoring, went to China this summer for work & travelling with my own earned money, Math Excellence award, CM Level 9(violin), Orchestra, going to have about 150 hours community service, etc.

other
- I speak four languages..would that even help me?
- took 6APs 10th grade
Calculus BC 5
US History 4
Macro Econ
Micro Econ (I don't remember but one of the Econs was 4 and one was 5)
Government & Politics Comparative4
Chemistry 4

3 APs 11th grade
AP Environmental Science 5
AP Statistics 5
AP Biology 5

taking AP Physics and AP English 12th grade (Possibly also AP Euro His)

-taking a Math course at UCI in 12th grade (Either Multivariable Calculus or Infinite Series & Linear Algebra) and possibly also an Engineering course

Thanks so much for reading!

@coolchoa:
I think you have a very good chance at making both O_O.

coolchoa: very odd case you have. Great GPA, great scores, rigorous course load (I would recommend taking AP Euro), your ECs are a little odd (weak?) relative to others' but you have an explanation, you have a unique situation in your traveling... so, if you make your essays really great, I'd say you have a good shot.

Thanks Castel & kyledavid80 :)

Bump... :P

coolchoa: Match for engineering. Good luck!

prospective major: east asian studies

I'm curious to see how your weighted is less than your UC GPA. Riase your SAT I and you shouldn't have too much of a problem.

P.S. How was the SAT II Physics test? Which study guide did you use and was it similar to the real test itself?

My majors: undecided / pre-med / music...

Do I have a shot???

is that your UC GPA? if so, I think you're a solid match. Who knows, anything can happen and I know people with your stats who've been denied, but you definitely have a better than average chance. Great scores and solid GPA/ECs. good luck!

Castel - Well, if you round my gpa up it's a 4.48, I guess. I think my school's GPA weights like UC's GPA (if that makes sense).

If you took AP Physics B, you should be fine for the physics sat II test. I took AP Physics C which is calculus based, so we don't touch on optics or half of what is on the SAT II test. But if you're "science smart" (unlike me), you should get in the 700's - all my friends in my physics C class got an 800 (the curve is like 15 blank = 800). I would probably borrow Barron's and buy Princeton Review for physics; barron's tends to tell you too many useless things.

saeraxD - I don't see how a UC GPA can go that high since there is an 8-semester cap on AP/honors credit. Unless maybe you took only 5 classes for most semesters, all AP/honors, and got all A's in them...but your UW suggests otherwise. Based on your UW and everything else, I think it's a reach. I'd guess 20-30% chance.

calivla - decent GPA, decent scores. I think you have a 50% chance of getting in.

I see, I tried using that calculator thing on the website, I must've done it wrong.

Oh you know what...UCs have a website that tells you which classes from your high school they give extra credit to. But since you're OOS I don't think they cover your high school.

hi! :D
