In terms of extracurriculars, I have been playing football for 4 years, with 2 years on varsity. Our varsity team had the highest average GPA in our section and I won the Most Academic Award (for highest GPA) on that team in 2007. I am also a sectional scholar athlete and have earned my academic letter. I literally spend 20 hours a week during the season and 15 hours a week during the summer and off-season(and I really only get 4-5 weeks off in a year) so I am very much dedicated to this sport.

I have over 300 hours of community service. I volunteer weekly at my local hospital and have amassed over 150 hours there. This past summer I have been helping register voters and other volunteer work for Barack Obama's campaign(about 50 hours, and I really love it). I also do other random volunteer work with the football team and with some clubs at school.

In addition, I was a baseball umpire for a youth league for 2 years. I was also a private tutor for two years, tutoring elementary/middle school kids in math. I was also a videographer for the local youth football league(for 3 years), and taped every film of every squad's game. I also was an assistant coach for one of the squads of that organization for a year.

Also, I was in a summer program for gifted high school students at UC Berkeley for four years. There I took challenging courses that I got credit for.
In school, other than football, I am a member of the MUN club and the Spanish club. I have been in the California Scholarship Foundation for 7 semesters and have won numerous school and MUN awards. I plan on starting a couple of poltical-based clubs next year.

Also, I have only very recently(like late 11th grade) figured out what I want to do with my life. I joined MUN(did a couple of conferences) and have done quite a bit of work with Obama's campaign(both of which I absolutely love), but, due to time constraints, haven't been able to do too much else politically-based. I am the vice-president of our school's Democrat Club.

IMPORTANT: I have no math class senior year, but it is due to my schools dropping all the available higher math classes, so I have nothing else to take. I wonder if UC Berkeley will understand =.

azboon: be sure to mention the lack of math classes in your high school. However, do realize that Berkeley adcom will also wonder why you did not pursue higher math at a local community college or online.

I'd say high match. Make sure your essays are solid; that can make up for test scores (which really aren't that bad...)

Helpppp

Minshe, thanks for responding xD. I know my SATs arent THAT bad, but I want them to be great! Most of my friends have 2200+ scores and I feel left out. =

In regards to my math class, I did not pursue a higher math at a local community college because I signed up for a math class for my senior year already. It was only until my senior year began, when summer was already over, when the school told me both higher math classes originally offered were dropped.

BUT I can try to take a math class for a comunity college in the second semester. However, all the college apps are done in the first semester so I dont know how much this will affect me. Do you think taking a math class only in the second semester will affect my chances significantly?

Azboon: as I mentioned before, be sure to explain your specific circumstances (this is the sort of thing the "Additional Info" box is for). It won't count against you if it was out of your power that you were unable to take a math class senior fall. It wouldn't hurt to take a community college math class (even if it didn't matter for admissions, you could always transfer the credits for when you are a college student). Also, your taking a community college math class second semester makes the first semester absence look like an aberration, whereas the lack of a math class second semester may make it look like a pattern.

sm@ckth@t: Are you applying for EECS, or CS (Letters and Science)? There is a significant difference in your chances. I get the feeling you copied this from another thread xP Recs don't matter for Berkeley, unless you get invited to apply for Regents'/Chancellor's Scholarship. Also, your UC GPA would be very helpful. Bakke vs Regents of the University of California means race isn't taken into account in admissions anymore (except as an interest and a last minute person A vs. person B), so don't worry too much about race. I'd also say high match, though that's without UC GPA factored in.

Hi, I'm currently a senior living in california and am in the process of applying to the UCs.
Here's the breakdown...
UC GPA: 3.69 or 3.72 (depends on a grade change from junior year)
Upward Trend:
Fresh Year - 2.2/2.4
Soph Year - 3.16/3.83
Junior Year - 4.0/3.83 <---3.83 may be changed to a 4.0
My overall class rank is obviously pretty poor, because of my early sophomore and freshman years...but UCs don't count freshman year right?..
Terrible at French III, so I got Bs both semesters...

SAT - 2140 (700R-720M-720W 8E)
SAT IIs
Math IIC - Pending
Biology - Pending
I expect both of my SAT IIs to be somewhere in the 700s range, if not better.
APs Taken:
AP Biology - 3
AP Calculus AB - 4

APs in progress:
AP Physics
AP Gov/Econ
